@antipodean That's fucking brutal
Yes, when your political campaign can largely be snippets of them talking, you're done. If anyone in his family had the slightest concern for his welfare, they'd have him removed.
The problem is the alternative:
The Biden/Harris ticket...the gift that keeps on giving to the GOP.
Surely the Dems have got some new blood that can run. Someone electable - and i don't mean Gavin Newsom. Someone that isn't Bernie Sanders or a member of The Squad. Or Pete Buttigieg.
When do the Clinton's start Chelsea's assault on the WH to carry on their legacy?
If you’re looking at family members M Obama is more likely. She’d be terrible of course but it’s possible
Where are all the other options? The Dem losses (particularly state legislatures) from Obama’s 8 years are still being felt. That’s why most Dem options are elderly or a little too young. A generation of options was largely wiped out and moved to other careers
It’s most likely Newsom though. You’d assume Trump jrs girlfriend has some good dirt on her ex husband though
Always worth reposting this photo
I'm getting Patrick Bateman vibes from him.

@Duluth Can't see Newsom going anywhere on the national stage - he'd be loathed by a large number of people outside of California. Even in California he's regarded as a lightweight. He was called "the haircut" when I lived in the SF Bay Area.
Brutal

@Kid-Chocolate This is pathetic. Soon the flu will be a state of emergency. Back to social distancing?
-
Pathetic but predictable. I though it might head in this direction as soon as I first heard about Monkey Pox some months back. I just hope it doesn't get the momentum that Covid got. I liked the world as it was. Esp easy travel and we are close to how it was now. The prices are still higher but not too much more

The Whodunnit that isn’t going away.
“[T]he identity of the January 6 pipe bomber is one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time. The most wanted criminal in the biggest FBI investigation in US history has forever changed everything we thought we knew about living in a 21st century surveillance state. Evidently, all you need is a hoodie and you can neutralize the entire juggernaut field of modern forensics.”

"Republican southern states have vowed to keep bussing migrants to Democratic cities further north as America grapples with a record- breaking wave of immigration and a mounting humanitarian crisis.
They blame President Biden for the record numbers crossing the border from Mexico. More than 220,000 people were apprehended by US Border Patrol in May, an all-time monthly high.
Greg Abbott, the Republican Texas governor and one of the most vocal critics of Biden, launched the state-funded bussing scheme as a stunt in April and has now sent more than 4,500 migrants and 150 buses to Washington alone, prompting Muriel Bowser, the DC mayor to request National Guard troops in the capital.
Doug Ducey, the Arizona governor, followed suit in June and Abbott said this week that he would expand the programme to other Democrat-held cities. He added that the hundreds now arriving daily at Union Station in Washington, a short walk from the US Capitol, were “just a tiny fraction of what we had to deal with every day”.
Abbott told Fox News: “We have more buses headed their way as we speak. This just shows the hypocrisy of these liberal leaders up in the northeast who think that the border crisis created by Joe Biden . . . is fine as long as it’s Texas that has to deal with it. But as soon as they have to deal with it . . . they are up in arms calling for the National Guard.”
The influx of migrants from Texas is already putting a strain on local resources in Washington. Hundreds of volunteers have turned out at shelters to assist the migrants spilling out of buses onto the streets of the capital at the end of a gruelling, months-long journey from Central and South America.
Aid groups are struggling. Many of the new arrivals have wound up shifting between spare rooms offered by local residents. Others are in homeless camps and on park benches.
Frustration among aid volunteers at Bowser’s lack of leadership has been growing for weeks, and anger boiled over when she called for guards, declaring that Washington had reached a “tipping point”. Bowser claimed some migrants had been tricked into boarding the buses from Texas and demanded “immediate and sustained” assistance from the federal government.
Aid workers accused her of responding to Abbott’s political stunt with one of her own. Amy Fischer, a volunteer with Sanctuary DMV, one of the main groups in a network of aid agencies leading the response in Washington, said that Bowser’s call for a “militarised rather than a humanitarian response” only fuelled anti-immigrant rhetoric.
“We strongly oppose any military intervention. This only emboldens the xenophobic rhetoric of Governor Abbott by once again making a publicity stunt,” Fischer said. “Mayor Bowser has hundreds of millions of dollars at her disposal that she is not taking advantage of, and the call for the National Guard sends the wrong message.”
While political and legal wrangling drags on, waves of migrants continue to arrive, caught between the posturing of southern governors such as Abbott and the paralysis in Washington.
Pablo DeJesús, executive director at the Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice, an advocacy group, said the crisis pointed to a failure by successive governments to reform immigration. Instead, billions of dollars have been ploughed into the security forces, rather than humanitarian solutions.
“The US has been militarising the border rather than looking to a community-based response. It seems every time Congress gives more money, they use those funds to further militarise the border, rather than deliver welcoming services and treating people with dignity,” DeJesús said."

@Victor-Meldrew this is a brilliant response from the Republicans. The democrats fully deserve this. Their policies. They can deal with it. Always for them NIMBY.
-
If you look the actual numbers of immigrants being bused into NYC and DC, it’s peanuts compared to the tidal wave Texans are expected to deal with in their neighborhoods with fuckall support from the federal government.
Peanuts, yet these Democratic do-gooders who pat themselves on the back signalling virtue, are now panicking and declaring a state of emergency, all the while supporting open borders, undocumented entry, and inviting them to their official “sanctuary cities”.
Panicking like helpless crying babies. Their bed. They made it. Now that they’re being made to suffer the consequences of their own policies and having to sleep in it, they blame the Governor of Texas and call it a “stunt”?
It’s sad, but their comeuppance is entirely justified.
I expect that wall is going to get completed yet.

Pretty big few days in the USA...
- Inflation reduction act passes (Insulin price cap didn't make it through though)
- Burn Pit Bill passes
- Alex Jones's phone information is shared with the Jan 6 committee. One of his many lawyers fucked up and didn't contest it being shared in the damages case for Sandy Hook stuff. Who knows what that will turn up
- Trump's Mar-a-logo estate gets raided by FBI - saw some folks saying it was about Whitehouse records Trump (or staff) had removed and others saying it could be related to the info on Alex Jones's phone.
- Ongoing state-level law changes around abortion
Then there's Pelosi rarking up the Chinese with her Taiwan trip. I think that visit actually cost her with some recent (totally above board. ahem) stock purchases connected with computer chips.
-
The Mar a Lago raid is likely to be the popcorn event. In simple terms it ought to boil down to one of three outcomes:-
- Trump is innocent and it’s a witch hunt.
- Trump is found to have illegally kept WH documents and “something must be done”.
- Trump found to have kept some WH documents but nothing illegal. Nothing to see here, move along. Fudge, fudge.
My guess is no 3.

@Catogrande seems like a really big action to take if they have any doubt on wrong doing. Even if they are treating it as an aggressive audit or some shit. It's already riled up a big bunch of folks.

Inflation reduction act....😂😂😂😂. Mainly a climate change bill with a dollop of health care reform. Ergo, it is a spending bill, that will ultimately increase energy prices. That will stop that blasted inflation.
They really do think ppl are fools and this type of thing shows they really, really don't care.

I wonder if Hillary still has any documents on her private server 😂. The constant Trump derangement is just a distraction. He's a useful idiot to keep ppl's focus off other areas that really do require focus and analysis.

Whilst I don’t doubt this aspect of things, in this instance it seems the investigation was at the behest of the National Archive. Not usually thought of as overtly political?

Everything in the US has become overtly political. Partisanship has gone bonkers.
