Wallabies v Springboks II

From GAGR -
"It's pretty inspirational that the Boks are even playing in this tournament. Seems Etzebeth and many of their forwards suffer from serious chronic medical conditions, severe forms of arthritis, perhaps, and struggle to go more than 14 seconds without being attended to by a legion of medical staff for a minute or two. Leaving the care home -- whence I assume they all reside, what with all this constant need for medical attention -- must be a pretty daunting experience. They have displayed true courage simply by turning up to Australia, let alone finding the willpower to partake in a match of rugby union football." -

About 30%? Revolving doors
23% - total 88, missed 20.
Wallabies missed 4%

Thought Boks forwards and halves looked off the pace. Vermeulen Etzebeth Mbonambi and the props are not mobile enough and Faf looks slower than I remember. The ref kept them in the game though with what I thought was some over zealous officiating. If AB's can stop the constant stoppages from the Bok forwards and not get penalised heavily they should do OK.

Just how shit were Gatlands Lions😳
Just how outdated & limited was Gatland’s game plan?
Picked the wrong players to execute his game plan when he had all the players he needed to smash the Boks with a different game plan
-
@mikethesnow could have been a very dangerous backline outside Russell, with strike players like Hogg/Williams, Watson, Harris, etc.
-
Tremendous from Australia
Some lovely attractive running rugby with deserved tries.
Great to see guile best grunt.
Hopefully they can do the same to the Argies.
If SA get anywhere near NZ then we’ll be back in Heimlich land

And had better forwards than Australia who could have run them ragged

We fucked up their grunt fairly well, too.
I was happy to see the ref correctly adjudicate the maul, but also happy to see us adjust how we stopped it.
The Boks threw almost exclusively to Orie and it seemed like they could never get it started.

Right to copy some shit I posted elsewhere:
Our discipline still needs work and our high ball defense was ordinary.
Boks didn't fire a shot - think they got sucked into trying to play a bit wide, and then went back to their maul which was providing them zero go-forward after initial penalty wins there.
The balance of personnel is about right for the Wallabies BUT Koroibete is a target for high kicks, and while Hodge grew into the game, he looks like he's lacking confidence. Some good counterattack from us which is good to see - heads-up play lacking the last few years
Where to for the Boks?
They're not fit enough.
They're not creative enough.
Their cohesion shows exactly what they are: a team picked from across the world with limited time together executing a limited game plan that is fairly easily blunted.
ABs by 30 next week.Yep, they were God awful under the bombs. Hodge was copping no end of shit and the crowd cheered ironically when he finally caught one. Korobiete was probably worse though. Get rid of Swindon as well. That hideous caveman is almost a card a game player.
The Boks were just shit. But tbh that isn't the first time I've gone to Suncorp and seen them get touched up. For whatever reason they don't seem to care about losing to Australia but go psycho against NZ. Having said that, they seemed up for these games so maybe they really are just a mediocre side 🤔. That backline was hopeless. Le Roux has to be the most overrated player in the game.

That was fun to watch, the best we've played since the 2019 Perth Bledisloe.
For all the talk of kicking and mauling, the Bok game plan relies mainly on defence. Physical brick wall defence that starves you of points and creates opportunities on the counter.
But when you miss tackles and mis-read like they did today then the whole thing falls apart very quickly.
I was impressed with how we converted our chances, which was something we've struggled with under Rennie. We exploited space well and didn't force it with stupid cross-kicks or triple cut passes.
Samu Kerevi has been the revelation, and the strongest argument possible for relaxing the Giteau rule. His introduction has changed our season. Quade gets the attention, but it's Kerevi who has won us games.
Also a great game from Len Ikitau who is a lovely understated 13 with a great left boot. Great to see him hitting his straps.

Goes to show the difference that a competent, experienced 10 running the cutter makes. Quade deserves all the attention he is getting.
