Foster still having lunch, so We have to wait an extra few hours for him to finish FFFS before we see the team.

    Lol, because he's fat

    24 - M. Hooper

    😉

Yeah I’m a fan too. I don’t think he’s a natural captain, but I do like the way he goes about it. Plus he seems like a decent fella.

Only real surprise for me is Weber starting over TJ. The other changes are much of a muchness given the schedule that lies ahead.

Seems like - with his time away in Japan and flirtation with league - that TJ is in the dog box a bit.

They made him wait to come back into the AB squad and now they're giving Weber the starter's spot ahead of him. I know someone will say that he needed to play an NPC game to qualify himself - but, to me - that was just a technicality. If they'd really wanted him they could easily have circumvented that rule with a "he's signed with us" and only a few pedants would have blinked.

TBH I was a bit surprised at the talk of him coming straight in over Weber. Not because I rate Weber as in Smith class but because TJ has hardly shown any chops for ages.
He also looks like a cadaver since turning vegan and I really don't believe that he can be pushing out the performance numbers he once did.
Happy to be proven wrong but Weber has earned the right to be the 2IC.

So some new faces off the bench.

Patrick Tuipulotu has a tight groin

Some ‘treatment’ in Kalgoorlie will ease that.

Just be happy he tore himself away from his 12th meal of the day to announce the team. Can't be easy when you have to eat every 5 minutes.

In all seriousness, like that team. Ardie as captain as well. That's pretty huge.

@chris-b when's the last time Perenara played a test or even a game of Super Rugby intensity?

Not chucking him straight into a Bledisloe to start doesn't mean he's in the dogbox

And TJP was average, throwing out those shit passes again.

For sure, but the question was 'when's the last time Perenara played a test ...'

Someone is really not paying attention!

@act-crusader or TJ has been used as the closer for the majority of his test career. So when he comes back in that is the job he gets.

    woops.

Having looked - he came on after 67 minutes when the game was long gone.

Since then they've been on break, in lockdown in NZ and then soft quarantine in Aus. Not sure that's enough footy to be thrown straight into starting.

To go against the grain, there is nothing wrong with George Bridge - relative strengths are decision making, accuracy and work rate. Certainly doesn’t have Reiko’s speed or Caleb’s tackle breaking capability but very useful. A team is always about a mix of skills and combinations, and his performances at test level have been good. Comparing the Crusaders and Blues backlines over the years, generally they have not had the explosive talent but have always got the results. Having a useful forward pack helps.

At Super Rugby level - absolutely.

At test level - the Crusaders are hardly a factory of gun AB wingers......
