@mariner4life And yet it seems to be a growing sport everywhere except Aus and NZ. Any perceived malaise with the sport around these parts is because we couldn't sort a root in a brothel.
These two tests a case in point. Two tests at Eden park in a row? Didn't realise it was the only stadium in NZ.
It's not, but how is that any different than how England or Wales approach things. With the clusterfuck replacement of Jade Stadium, EP's the largest stadium in NZ. We need to make money too, after last year, and a big gate is a factor in that.

I don't think nextw eek will have that many people there to be honest. I'm not really that excited about Aus 2 weeks in a row - - and at 80 bucks in teh cheap seats, you'd have to really be keen!
-
He's a frustrating player for me in that he's a bit of freak who doesn't really fit well in any position but is just too good a player to leave out.
He's un-selfish with great defence, can tear a team apart and is as brave as fuck. But while he doesn't have brain-farts, too many things he tries at Test level just don't come off and can lose us momentum. TBF, the same criticism can be said of BB at 15 at times.
I'm not convinced by any of the options at 15. Neither BB, JB or DMac give me that solid feeling you got with BFA or Mils. Poss. the best option for me is BB starting at 15 and DMac as a sub. JB just seems to be a bit flaky for me - poss. coz he's been mucked around by Foster.

Probably our 2 best jackals (Savea, Papali'i).
Might be particularly important with the new rule on clearing out jacklers.
As will the strength of DP and AI to clean out legally.

I remember the amazing chase back, tackle and turnover but that’s about it.
that's the one highlight.
made errors, complete non-entity on attack.
we lack a great fullback.
One kick out on the full, 3 turnovers conceded, and 11 total metres (2nd worst back by metres, I think).
He did apparently beat two defenders and get away one offload, plus that fantastic chase and tackle, but overall he was poor in his contributions.
Thanks for backing up the sentiment. The match thread didn’t seem to be too worried at the time.
As I said I didn’t recall him having a horror so was trying to understand the comment that he played himself out of the team.
To be honest though it wasn’t a game made for him. All of our tries were scored from 15 metres out. Just watched the highlights tape and in Reece’s second DMac drew two defenders to leave Sevu unmarked. In Jordan’s try he was running a second hole in case Jordan’s run didn’t get through and in the build up to another he took us from a static position to a metre out stepping through two defenders.
I agree that the position is still debatable just don’t see him as the worst option. But it's DMac, of course he he was shit because DMac.
Having fun with this little crusade you're on?
It's fashionable to not like DMac, and wrongthink to do otherwise.

Absurd situation that many are hoping for a sub-par performance so we can get the best, (almost universally acknowledged), coach in there in time for the next WC.
A strong showing in '21 could be a terrible result for '23. Would it simply paper over the cracks? And come the world cup the failures of the 2017 Lions series, 2019 RWC and 2020 again come to the fore as we lack ideas when the pressure comes on?
But they would be piston wristed gibbons and Unnewzealandish

The best way World Rugby could ensure player safety is to make amendments that actually increase the amount of time the ball is in play. And a good way to start is penalise teams that fuck around time wasting at restarts and actually make players stay on their feet at rucks.
And caterpillar rucks. Fuck them off bigtime.
Kicks of any kind EDIT: need to be closely timed to prevent fucking around, really.
This game is Australia's to lose. You have the better coach, a selection of halfbacks, you've played higher ranked and tougher teams, while we keep jiggling our backline, (and when we select 11/14, 12, and 15 it isn't often the position they prefer), we don't even know which is our best 10, and all our forwards have been written off.
I wouldn't even pick Smith in an Aussie team (he doesn't give enough backchat for an Aussie 9). -

It's Pickerill next week.

the only one i even understand is the 20-min red card
the rest do fuck all for the game.
50/22
I suspect to give the option to the attackers to try for the lineout if the defending winger is up swamping the defence, or if he is back allows space on attack. (Isn't that the loigue rationale?). Quite like the concept. Execution? Well we'll see.A pre tackle binding one, only one person can bind?
Que?Cleanout not allowed to drop weight on jackler or target lower limbs
Que?red card 20 min
Like thisgolden point

compound the complaints about subjective judgements
This is the problem, and it's such a blight on the game.
and, as the bore-a-thon in the Republic is showing, giving the refs and TMO more to look at is exactly what the game need
3 hours tests ya-all!!
Great value for money, like when I play pub pool, my $2 good a long way!

Frankly I prefer JB at 15 (love his boot), but am also a fan of DMac. Love his attacking ability and sheet guts on D.
And definitely think he gets undeserved shit. Any mistake he makes just serves to confirm some people's biases and he doesn't get enough credit for the good stuff. I don't think he was as bad as perceived in the last game.

An interesting little fact:
It's a measure of the competition for places on the All Blacks wings that Rieko Ioane struggled to remember when he last played a Test at Eden Park when interviewed ahead of Saturday's Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia.
For the record, having made his Test debut at the ground against the British & Irish Lions, and scoring two tries, his only other Test there was in 2018 against France, when he also scored two tries.
So only his 3rd test on his home ground. Two tries it is then!

Taking into account who is available/unavailable this would have to be the most balanced/best team Foster has selected to date, based mainly on the fact that Frizzell isn’t 6, Bridge isn’t 11, Jordie isn’t 14 and to a lesser extent he’s accepted Rieko is still our best 11.
Yep Ardie is at 8, but the other 2 loosie are big boys, Papalii has been killing it all season and Akira has been impressive when in black.
Not sold on Dmac at 15, but I still think that’s a 3 horse race between him and the 2x Barrett’s for that spot (but IMO it should be Jordan)
Agree with others, that having Mo’unga, DMac and 2x Barrett’s in the 22 is an overkill of 10/15s. Better of leaving one of Jordie/Dmac out and developing Tupaea.

it is kind of weird to have the smallest AB loose forward at 8 though, isn't it? I think I'd have to go back to Masoe/Rodders for any historical precedent..
