Cleanout not allowed to drop weight on jackler or target lower limbs
So it's very difficult to cleanout a jackler?
if they have their head below their hips (like pretty much all of them do) you are fucked. Can't hit them. Can't risk brushing the head or neck. Can't get at the lower body. you are pretty much fucked.

compound the complaints about subjective judgements
This is the problem, and it's such a blight on the game.

and, as the bore-a-thon in the Republic is showing, giving the refs and TMO more to look at is exactly what the game need
3 hours tests ya-all!!

@antipodean not sure we need to worry about golden point.

Play him against tier-two opponents and he looks a million dollars, play him against big imposing physical sides and he'll get flattened, time and again.
I guess the England team I saw at Twickenham in 2018 were all midgets then....
he was seriously good on that tour, arguably our best player. You could see, even if he didn't make a break, his pace was giving defenders kittens. And i completely changed my opinions of him as a test player on that tour.
but
injury, and form slide put him back. His play this year probably earned his spot. Problem is, that last performance was a shocker, and his limitations were bought to the fore.
The mitigation is i don't think much of the other options at this stage. JB has just as many limitations to his game. BB is an okay FB, but seems to fuck up backline balance because, from the outside, he still wants to be the 10.
I'm not as sold on Jordan as some. And then we are out of fullbacks. The problem with 5 pro teams is our options to bring through and develop talent are limited.
Jordan's defence isn't anywhere near good enough to be a Test fullback.
Jordan is a big, keen and fast player. Can't the AB coaches teach him how to defend and tackle effectively? He is only 23 and a half.
So JB BB DMac and Jordan can play FB. Actually there is a fifth one as well. Are people saying we have 5 potential fullbacks and none of them are quite good enough?
NB I don't fully understand why JB is seen as a limited fullback, he does most of the basics well, generally is one of the best super 15s in the country, and has a huge boot. And I've been a critic of him in the past-I think he has improved (but putting him at wing was and still is in hindsight, the height of stupidity.) -

Great value for money, like when I play pub pool, my $2 good a long way!

it's not really the thread for it, but rugby really does have far too many rules to ever have broad appeal. you either already love it, or you're not picking it up without someone dragging you along.

@mariner4life And yet it seems to be a growing sport everywhere except Aus and NZ. Any perceived malaise with the sport around these parts is because we couldn't sort a root in a brothel.
These two tests a case in point. Two tests at Eden park in a row? Didn't realise it was the only stadium in NZ.
-
@stargazer although some you just know they are doomed to fail, so why does WR not see it?

is it growing?
It can't grow in Australasia because where has it got to go?
-
@taniwharugby Because of the purpose of some of them: player safety. And I doubt they'll agree with you that they are doomed to fail.

The new "rules" are part of trials. They aren't law, yet. Let's hope a few of them disappear in the bin by the end of the year.
Do you know if they have been trialed at lower levels?
