So Murray became tour captain but then not good enough to start the tests? OK, his form hasn't been great but I would still expect him to start.

Faletau has looked good too, so would be my choice at no.8.

Or did you not see the original squad selection?

I take it you kinda skim read my post. You know, the one where I queried about his exclusion from the squad...

Not at all. I just assumed that as you were so far behind the times you were just as likely to be behind the curve. 😁

Scrum half is an area of concern for us. The main man (Murray) has really looked out of sorts and an in form Gareth Davies would be a Godsend, unfortunately we seem to have a woefully out of sorts Davies too. Ali Price who would have been most peoples fourth choice out of three has really stepped up though.

Fuck I hope he stays fit.

If Lions pick is true only Lawes selection surprises me and I would have started Watson. Boks starting front row is the big surprise there

VDM turns like a truck, I think he'll be a liability Vs SA wings, and Kwagga!

Anyone complaining about a lack of size of some AB loose forwards only need to look at the selection of Kwagga Smith. As an ex-sevens player he is quick, but smaller than most backs.

WTF is up with Elstadt selection? I swear there at least 20 loose forwards who would have been better. He's slow, I'll-disciplined and without any descernable upside. Utterly rubbish rugby player.

The frontrows seem to be wrong way round - the more dynamic props starting with the stronger scrummagers on the bench. I'm a fan of Nche, but starting against the Lions with only two caps to your name is a big ask. Nyakane is inconsistent, let's hope he has one of his good games.

Not sure about Jantjes on the bench either. I actually rate him higher than most, but he only works if the game plan suits him and can't see South Africa playing a game plan that will suit his skills.

Super happy for Willemse though, he has worked very hard on his game over last couple years and really deserves the chance.

@machpants to be fair we haven't had an opportunity to bring in new players since 2019. Ideally we would have found a replacement for a guy like Le Roux, but we have not had the chance to try anything new.

@sidbarret hi Siddie, good to see you are still alive. Yep, at the moment we are just glad to be able to see the Bokke back in action. After the BILs tour we may see more retirements

@oompb Dankie oom, dit gaan goed.

I feel really sorry for Vermeulen, at 35 this was going to be his last dance and he was in phenomenal form before his injury.

Another guy that I feel for Gelandt, I rate him very highly and this could have been the series where took over the fullback jersey.

I am a little angry at RG Snyman for getting himself injured in such a stupid way, he could have been a real point of difference between the teams.

Other than Le Roux I don't see any retirements in this squad and we should (with a couple tweaks here and there) be able to take this team through to 2023.

A tour like this makes it even harder for players to make a case that they should be in the Test side. More now than ever the coaches will be relying on preconceived notions.
