He has to be very close. His performances so far have been bloody good.

Geez has Davies form dropped that much that he can't even make the squad and Daly is the starting centre?

His possible selection is not the head scratcher.

All of the 4 wings have done enough to be selected.

I would always start Daly over Davies at centre, based mainly on the fact that Davies is a scrum half, plus he has not been playing very well. But this could be my English bias talking.

And a damn fine halfback he is too.

Can't see it. Most glaring omission is Adams, so unless he's copped an injury, that selection is fucked. No Faletau or Simmonds? Nah. Lawes warrants a bench spot but no more. Owens is firmly third choice hooker in anyone's eyes.

I will buy* you a virtual beer if that is the side.

*Meaning that in reality I will do nothing of the sort. This is what virtual means in this instance.

I'll spill it if I'm right

Been written as fait accompli. Wonder if SA holding back top props has influenced bench.

Of the 23, surprised Van de Merwe for Adams, six man forwards bench, and AWJ risked. Rest of calls fairly marginal.

Oh that Davies. Of course there are many of them. Just the one in SA though. Or did you not see the original squad selection?

Seriously though, Daly is a bloody good 13 but Eddie has tried to shoehorn him in on the wing (OK) and at full back but he won’t be a full back as long as his arsehole points downwards.

I take it you kinda skim read my post. You know, the one where I queried about his exclusion from the squad...

So Murray became tour captain but then not good enough to start the tests? OK, his form hasn't been great but I would still expect him to start.

Faletau has looked good too, so would be my choice at no.8.

Not at all. I just assumed that as you were so far behind the times you were just as likely to be behind the curve. 😁

Scrum half is an area of concern for us. The main man (Murray) has really looked out of sorts and an in form Gareth Davies would be a Godsend, unfortunately we seem to have a woefully out of sorts Davies too. Ali Price who would have been most peoples fourth choice out of three has really stepped up though.

Fuck I hope he stays fit.

If Lions pick is true only Lawes selection surprises me and I would have started Watson. Boks starting front row is the big surprise there

VDM turns like a truck, I think he'll be a liability Vs SA wings, and Kwagga!

Anyone complaining about a lack of size of some AB loose forwards only need to look at the selection of Kwagga Smith. As an ex-sevens player he is quick, but smaller than most backs.

WTF is up with Elstadt selection? I swear there at least 20 loose forwards who would have been better. He's slow, I'll-disciplined and without any descernable upside. Utterly rubbish rugby player.

The frontrows seem to be wrong way round - the more dynamic props starting with the stronger scrummagers on the bench. I'm a fan of Nche, but starting against the Lions with only two caps to your name is a big ask. Nyakane is inconsistent, let's hope he has one of his good games.

Not sure about Jantjes on the bench either. I actually rate him higher than most, but he only works if the game plan suits him and can't see South Africa playing a game plan that will suit his skills.

Super happy for Willemse though, he has worked very hard on his game over last couple years and really deserves the chance.

@machpants to be fair we haven't had an opportunity to bring in new players since 2019. Ideally we would have found a replacement for a guy like Le Roux, but we have not had the chance to try anything new.
