Hurricanes v Chiefs

Also, what to do with Finau? He had a big impact off the bench again so needs to stay in the 23.
Vaa'i's first win in a Chiefs jersey.
Put him at 6, with Brown coming off the bench. He really is more of a Blindside that's been shoved into lock. If he is ever to play international rugby he's probably a touch too short for lock, too.

@arhs Yeah I would be happy with that, although that means Brown plays lock when he comes on. Sowakula still looks a little way off being up to SR level based on what I saw today.
Brown is semi-passable at lock, particularly off the bench. But you're right, it would definitely be nice to have a bit more size there (seems to a problem for a couple teams).
Van den Hoven could put on some weight, but has the height. Kali Vaipulu from BoP looked huge from a pic I saw of him on Facebook. Still U20 level. Does anyone know anything more about him?

He's tall alright. Vaipulu didn't get much time on the field for BOP today. One for the future.
Van den Hoven didn't start BOP's first game either, and never really stood out when he was playing. Another of their locks was the most prominent.

Amazing comeback from the Chiefs, I'd written them off at halftime after such a dire first half, riddled with penalties and mistakes. I was surprised how poorly the Canes played in the second half, they'll be pissed at one lone penalty.
Mainly I'm just glad they've broken the losing streak. That had the opportunity to get far far worse than it was. I know DMac gets a lot of criticism, but gees he has ticker.

@antipodean not that I really disagree with you but
Do we have the type of 10 you are talking about in the country

Yea, I'm not sure Van den Hoven will ever stand out. Its possible he won't be a liability, though (particularly in terms of his size in comparison to other alternatives).
That was the Taranski lock who stood out? Coffin? Let's hope him and Vaipulu continue to develop. We have a bit of a shortage of tall, strong locks who aren't prone to injury

Anyone else trying to watch on rugbypass and got an old replay of the breakdown or something?
My matchpass started 16 in?
Yeah pretty shithouse eh. It wasn't even the latest replay of the rugby show they had on! If there's issues, at least put it in the site.

Good point.
I’m not convinced about him as a 10 for the ABs but I do think that his best chance of staying an AB is to be a 10/15 rather than a 15/10.
At Super level, and especially for this Chief’s side, I also dont think we have much choice except getting him to touch the ball more often (for better or worse), and if we put the responsibility of driving the team around we might be able to reduce the amount of times he runs across the field for no purpose.
He did a great job tonight putting the defense in two minds, and played within himself pretty well. At Super level (and not necessarily above), when he is like that, he’s probably the 3rd or perhaps even 2nd best 10 in NZ, and clearly the best in this Chief’s side right now.

@antipodean I think he should definitely start at 10 for the All Blacks. And Jordan Barrett has 14 all wrapped up.
hold on a minute

Well can't say I didn't expect that result.
Everyone could see the Canes had selected a team to get beat by most NPC teams.
How we reward the coaches with a contract extension is ridiculous. Why do the Canes let so many good players go, and attract so few talented players? I expect us to go winless this year, and just downhill unless we can make major changes, which is obvious we won't. -
