DMac needs to start at 10 for the Chiefs.
DMac needs to be given more time at 10, and maybe given another try at 10 for the ABs.
Fuck right off.
He did well at 10 against France in his first start there. One of the best games I've seen from an AB 10 over the last 4 or 5 years
Is that a joke? The France game where they had one foot on the plane already?
Jesus christ one good half against a shit Canes team and people are calling for him to be five-eighth for the All Blacks.
It's not like every player looked amazing against that French team. He stood out more than most.
And I've been calling for it for awhile (perhaps s not on this forum). Based on much more than one game.
I'll change my position when he continuously displays a calm demeanour on the field instead of his usual headless chicken act. Yes he played well today in the second half. It was against the Canes. A little perspective.
Once again, my opinion is based on more than one game. In my opinion he's consistently shown he can put players into space, or at least get them moving forward (which is something we have struggled with the last few years).
I think he'll also get a lot better (less headless chicken play) once he's actually played a decent amount of rugby consistently at 10. He's never really been given consistent gsnetime there.
Just to be clear, I'm not calling for him to be picked as a starter ahead of Barrett or Mounga just yet. I believe he's shown he is worth sticking with there for the Chiefs, and maybe the odd start for the Abs and evaluate how he goes.

Another shit input from Webber.
Weber needs to run more because that is his strength. His clearance at the breakdown and accuracy of passing needs to improve.
-
@canes4life He won’t because RTS is up there unless he wants to play wing.

@winger I actually didn’t mind Campbell after those early fumbles, but Taumatiene was pathetic when he came on.
Leger did f all at 10 and only went through the motions. Hopefully Love gets a shot. You can’t get any worse.
That’s why I was dumbfounded when Love wasn’t even on the bench for the last two games
-
@canes4life more likely be Jordie RTS would be wasted at 12, besides Fiane isn’t a bad player.

Congrats to the Chiefs for getting the monkey of their back.
In terms of the Canes we were challenging for the title between 2014 and 2019 making the Semis for five consecutive seasons, how on earth did we become this shit so quickly?
Almost everyone good left, and we replaced them with dross?

Thought Tiatia sparked the Chiefs with Trask and ENS misfiring too often. Hope Dmac stays at 10 with Wainui and Tiatia in the back 3 mix. Remarkably improved Chiefs line out also.
But good games from Prinsep Rayasi and Riccitelli in first half made it more nail-biting than convincing for me. -

Also, what to do with Finau? He had a big impact off the bench again so needs to stay in the 23.
Vaa'i's first win in a Chiefs jersey.
Put him at 6, with Brown coming off the bench. He really is more of a Blindside that's been shoved into lock. If he is ever to play international rugby he's probably a touch too short for lock, too.

@arhs Yeah I would be happy with that, although that means Brown plays lock when he comes on. Sowakula still looks a little way off being up to SR level based on what I saw today.
Brown is semi-passable at lock, particularly off the bench. But you're right, it would definitely be nice to have a bit more size there (seems to a problem for a couple teams).
Van den Hoven could put on some weight, but has the height. Kali Vaipulu from BoP looked huge from a pic I saw of him on Facebook. Still U20 level. Does anyone know anything more about him?

He's tall alright. Vaipulu didn't get much time on the field for BOP today. One for the future.
Van den Hoven didn't start BOP's first game either, and never really stood out when he was playing. Another of their locks was the most prominent.
-
Amazing comeback from the Chiefs, I'd written them off at halftime after such a dire first half, riddled with penalties and mistakes. I was surprised how poorly the Canes played in the second half, they'll be pissed at one lone penalty.
Mainly I'm just glad they've broken the losing streak. That had the opportunity to get far far worse than it was. I know DMac gets a lot of criticism, but gees he has ticker.
-
@antipodean not that I really disagree with you but
Do we have the type of 10 you are talking about in the country

Yea, I'm not sure Van den Hoven will ever stand out. Its possible he won't be a liability, though (particularly in terms of his size in comparison to other alternatives).
That was the Taranski lock who stood out? Coffin? Let's hope him and Vaipulu continue to develop. We have a bit of a shortage of tall, strong locks who aren't prone to injury
