Ah, right.
So Volleyball's Karch Kiraly would rank way, way above MJ as twice as many people play volleyball as Basketball?
It's one of the factors, not the only factor in my opinion.
Karch was excellent.

Much as it pains me to say based on that logic the GOAT would have to be a Footballer then.

Someone just reminded me of Squash's Jahanger Khan
"Jahangir Khan ( Urdu: جهانگير خان; born 10 December 1963) is a former World No. 1 professional Pakistani squash player. He won the World Open six times, and the British Open ten times. Jahangir Khan is widely regarded as the greatest squash player of all time"

This also from Wiki: "Jansher Khan is widely regarded as the greatest squash player of all time"
I wish they'd make their bloody minds up.

Also, get the fuck out with Wilt, I've debunked that myth already, he's not even top 5 in the NBA GOAT conversation
Wilt was the GOAT off the court.

If anyone else follows Table Tennis, Ma Long is probably the GOAT

@Chris-B The thing I hated most about that Bradbury was that it just had to be a fucking Australian!!! 2002 was right in the epicentre of their sporting purple patch. Rugby cricket netball swimming and even the socceroos were doing pretty well. And man did they not shut up about it.
And then lo and behold they were god damn handed a medal at the winter olympics!!!

@ACT-Crusader said in The GOAT:
@voodoo the talent around Russell was very good as well - Havlicek, Cousy, Sam and KC Jones, Heinsohn, Sharman.
the talent around Brady has been pretty impressive as well - not least Bill Belichek.
This is a great thread, by the way.
I'm also voting against Usain Bolt (and any track/field, or cycling to be fair), as PED are just too likely.

I came here to post basically this to earlier suggestions of Bolt, but you beat me to it. Absolutely spot on unfortunately (and I am a huge athletics fan).
The golden era of Jamaican sprinting 2008-2017 coincided perfectly with them having a basically non functional national anti doping body.
