Lockdown/Covid Check In

Sadly it looks like I'm going to have to come out of quasi-retirement and do some legal work again. 4 couples have asked me to advise/help them with separation/divorce and property settlements. I really don't have a choice in this, it needs to be done and as quickly and minimally painfully as possible. Pro Bono work naturally, I'd feel all kind of wrong getting paid as a result of friends' misery.
Sometimes I really do regret taking the career route I did in the late 80s. This makes 10 couples whose weddings I've attended that I will end up handling the legal work for the divorces. I guess I was a bit prescient handing out my business cards at the receptions all those years ago. (For the humour impaired , it was recognised as a joke by all involved back then) Not happy for my friends and not looking forward to this at all.
Hmmm, now I don't feel too bad. I was in the wedding party four times (best man once and groomsman three times) and the marriages all ended within two years.
Thankfully broke the curse as best man for my best mate they're still together after 15 years and then one other mate who I was groomsman for and they've just ticked over two years.

I'd say in some ways it is easier to vent on here, knowing for most of us you will never see in RL, so no biggie if you feel like a chump for it.
I bet in that parenting thread there is plenty of bits that just came out that people probably never speak about with anyone other than their partner (maybe not even them...) yet are happy to discuss with what is largely a bunch of strangers.

Pretty much the point of a therapist or psychologist isn't it? They don't know you personally / socially so you can speak to them freely?
I'd be a bit wary of some of the advice though...

@taniwharugby Was thinking this - "Awful analysis, incorrect conclusions, zero insight
Wrong about pretty much everything"but either works.

Like @mariner4life failed sexcapades. Think most of us are still traumatised by that.

@Nepia @SynicBast Without wishing to boast about my cat being blacker, I have been best man 5 times. 2 currently successful marriages but three failures 2 of which were entirely predictable at the time so I don’t consider myself the Jonah.
-
@Catogrande I did note the invitations for best man stopped after the fourth time, but that may have been because someone didn't see the funny side of the business cards.
-
@ACT-Crusader It could be worse, you could have been engaged to me...that's been a literal fatal mistake three times - henece why I've been quite happy to remain single for the last 20 years

@R-L Don't feel silly. This place is mostly useless fun. But it's a superb place to come.for support. Especially given the wide array of experiences to call on.
Exactly.
I remember the time I was really struggling to know if I would be able to afford a good school for my kids because I wasn’t a Wellingtonian on six figures. Came on the fern and realised most weren’t and all has been well.
Or the time when my stockbroker called me with some perplexing investment options and because of the fern I was able to tell him that peak oil was right around the corner, so he best get on to it. I will retire comfortably.
And the clarity of mind I got when I discovered right here that 6’4 props are really number 8’s.

What do you mean by failed?
It's like you think I didn't usher him out the door and then go back and finish
Total. Shitshow.
Made funnier when I realised Mrs mariner had no recollection of said incident until I reminded her a couple of days back.

Amen. Asked for some advice on a dodgy ankle and the advice turned out to be spot on.
