Jamie Joseph has extended his contract with Japan until 2023.
Fuck, that is odd, I really thought he would have preferred the AB's gig over the Yen. Surprised he didn't put Japan on hold until after the AB's was announced. Maybe he knows something we don't or perhaps Japan gave him an ultimatum. Tony Brown seemed pretty keen on the AB's.

Moffat been doing the rounds, also speaking on RS
I suspect that's where the Ferald article came from. Like the Wayne Smith articles last week.
NZH and RS both part of NZME

He likely looked at the selection panel and realized he never had a hope and decided not to waste his time.

Explain?
Or is this the Cantab mafia theory? The Cantabs here seem to think it’s slanted to Foster while others think it’s all red and black.

It just seems odd given what is at stake, that is a chance to coach the ABs which must be a dream for kiwi coaches. The fact he didn't even enter the race is weird. You have to wonder if Japan have been told they are in the Rugby Championship as you wonder what the big challenge is for them over the next 4 years.

Seems more and more likely that Joseph and Rennie have both heard through the grapevine that the recruitment process is a farce. No point burning all their goodwill at NZR by being part of recruitment process of which the outcome has already been decided. Don't be surprised if Robertson drops out soon, and NZR award Foster the job as the last candidate standing.

Gotta love a conspiracy theory.

Sheesh AC, this is all lose lose for you right? They select Foster and it's Foster, they select Razor and you lose your good Crusaders coach and might seem him replaced by a Hammett or Gibson type.

Would love to know whether it was a purely money decision from Joseph or if he realised it was rigged from the start. Both are equally bad.
I don't understand why people think like this (not just mofitzy). Why does it have to be either about the money offered by the JRFU, or not being able to get the ABs gig (because the outcome has somehow already been determined)?
Has it ever crossed your mind that Joseph actually likes coaching Japan, loves the country and its culture, and loves living and working there? Maybe he feels that he hasn't finished his job there; that they may have finished 8th at the 2019RWC but that he wants to help them to get better and achieve more? That he wants them to win the whole darn thing in 2023 or at least try?
Just a though. Don't be small-minded.
