Pity this thread descended into stupidity - that was a cracking semifinal and the Canes were unlucky to lose.
The second half had some incredibly good rugby, with both the tens showing some timely form (timely for the ABs).
Some of the stuff Barrett was doing was incredible, stuff that only he can do. And straight away, Richie would pull out something almost as good. Was like a mini AB trial in front of the selectors.
Anyone watching this with an eye on Japan would (or should) have come away with considerable confidence.
I saw some criticism of Beaudy's option taking in the first half but that was clearly the game plan which provided considerable benefit keeping the defence honest in the second half. You simply can't rush effectively if you're concerned the ball is going to drop in behind you.
I think the two game defining moments were Marshall's horror miss cleaning up a kick and Whitelock's hand of god incident.
TJ was huge factor out there too, his tackling is like having another flanker.
Very enjoyable game to watch as a neutral.
Be interesting to see what the impact of that game will be on the Crusaders, if that was their final. I'm expecting the actual final to be a flat game in comparison, with an easy Crusaders victory. Travel is just too big a factor, combined with home advantage.
It's the one real drawback of Super Rugby - the travel.

@canefan It would be not sure that's going to happen maybe BB for 2020 maybe 2021 that would be tough fuk all decent First Fives around .
No one knows what the terms of BBs deal are. If he takes a year long sabbatical we are poop

@Canes4life Possibly still some recruiting to do, the Crusaders Loose Forwards look light we need something to stiffen up that area.
Canes would have an edge there at the moment for next season and probably a big one at that.@Chris said in Semi Final 1: Crusaders vs Hurricanes:

Agree with the comments on Crotty from @pakman we looked so disorganised when he went off.
serious question, what does that say about the 10?
I should have written disorganised on defense ...
I griped earlier in the thread about how we started to hang off Barrett and Coles in the second half.
I don't think it's Richie's job to lead the defensive line.
How do we know how much of that is attributed to Crotty and how much is attributed to the change in game plan from the Canes? (To add a perspective from a non Crotty fanboi neutral 😉).
Edit: Should have finished reading the thread as this was mostly covered.

@raznomore I haven’t lost my NZ’d accent at all. In my last job asking for a pen would have the office girls in hysterics.
I don't have an NZ accent anymore but a Pom mate of mine used to always ask me to speak with one whenever he was drunk. It used to make him fall off his chair and spasm with laughter. He was at my wedding and kept following an NZ girl around asking her to say something. Some people just lose their shit over the accent.

@Rancid-Schnitzel I found Scottish and Irish girls loved mine...but my English colleagues used to give me crap about mine, I probably made it worse emphasising the words they took the piss out of over the years.

Were they really Scottish girls or just guys in skirts...

This by the Hurricanes is a fucking disgrace
Bunch of whiny bitches, happy the Crusaders won
Add the grubby antics of their captain & the Canes are a hard team to like
Great point. I've never seen a team in any sport whinge about a refereeing decision. Ever.

Honestly I don't even think that tweet was that whingy.
Now compare that to Jamie Wall's dummy spit in on the RNZ live scoring...Teams with legacy often get the rub of the green. Teams at home often get the rub of the green. It's just really tough as a supporter when your team gets close, but misses out. The reality is most sides aren't good enough to beat the Saders without a bit of luck, and if it doesn't go your way, you're done for.
Crusaders haven't been vintage this year, but their tight 5 is off the charts. We should be tlaking about the amazing performance by the Canes fatties, not a single refs call. Crusaders have been lucky with some refereeing this year, but you get that if you've got legacy. Frustrating for neutrals though

That gives me joy to see such petulance from a Rugby Journo
Lets ignore Marshall neglecting rugby basics for Mo'unga try or Ben Lam running 10m in field to leave Sevu Reece with half a pitch to himself to score a try

@Cyclops it's not all bad
Well a disappointing result, would've been cool to have the Canes in the final. Instead we're back here at this pile of scaffolding next weekend, when the Crusaders play the Jags.
See you then! And so the final will be next weekend in Christchurch, and let's hope more people show up to watch it.
that's a couple of tidy shots.

He's right in that the stadium looks like a absolute dump
I can see why fans wouldn't want to stand in scaffolding erected areas in middle of winter I'll give him that

haha some real hurt still going on...
a bit in the article form Twitter, suggesting the TMO should have intervened...IMO, why not go the next step, have no on-field ref and let the TMO make all the rulings...muppet!
Headline suggests that if Whitelock had not played at the ball, the canes woulda won!
Agree with MAllet though, was a calculated risk by Whitelock, and he got the jackpot.
-
@taniwharugby if that happens in a RWC knock out game and gets played on the big screen, the ref will undoubtedly go to the TMO. Whitelock would then be YC'd for professional foul and we'd be right under the pump, so I hope he doesn't bring that sort of "street-smart" to the RWC.
