I think this whole 'better pack' thing is over blown. Mo'unga plays behind probably the best pack in the competition, sure. But the 'canes are in the conversation for the number two pack in the competition. The last time that the canes and crusaders played the canes forwards shaded the crusaders (TJ Perenara even commented post match on getting consistently good ball).
If you think that the current Canes pack is challenging the Crusaders pack you are smoking some good stuff.
Terrible props, promising locks I guess, and Savea, who has to play 8 off scrums as we have no ball runner and Fifita who doesn't really offer much. You’d think Fifita would be tearing the joint up after being given another chance despite his controversial comments about not liking to hit rucks etc. What a silly bugger for not doing so......
Or maybe just a brilliant athlete but shit rugby player.

Fifita looked great when he burst onto the scene. But now doesn't offer a whole lot, it's very frustrating as he has the ability.
He is not great running the ball into contact, doesn't have dominant defense, doesn't seem to get himself into space for some reason, I'm guessing he gets stuck in too much tight stuff as our tight forwards just are not much chop. -

As for the actual vote. I voted Mo'ouga 10 and Barret 15. But I don't think it will happen. And TBH I probably don't think it should happen now that Crudena and Sopoaga (spit) are off shore and DMac is injured. As a Mo'ouga 10 and Barret 15 and B Smith 14 lineup would still require a 10 on the bench IMO (to not stuff up the structure) and that would probably mean an un-used Josh Ioane in most matches.
I don't think we'll see that either now that Dmac is injured, because having both Beauden and Richie play something like 80 minutes in multiple tests would be asking for one of those precious commodities to get broken.
What we might see, though, is Beauden at fullback in one of the RWC minnow games - with e.g. Josh Ioane getting a start at first five. Especially if we've been turned over by the Jaapies!

If the Canes are in the conversation for number 2 then that's a sad indictment on every other team. They are barely holding it together and without Ardie would be completely Friar Tucked.

We will be found out by any team that has a good well organised forward pack

When your first game at a world cup is against South Africa I think you want to stick with what you know. Sure in any other pool game maybe swap them both around.
I'm picking that by the time the WC starts the starting ten would have played in the tests leading up to the world cup rather than the surprise strategy of changing once WC starts

Mo'unga is kicking at 63% this season. Barrett is kicking at 83%. Seems like Richie being the better kicker is a bit of a myth.
Sides that don't take penalties will have lower kicking percentages than sides who do. All those awkward sideline conversions.
We need rather more than flat percentages to make a comparison.

@Stargazer said in All Blacks starting 10: Beauden Barrett or Richie Mo'unga:
No, he had low scores in the first 3 rounds. Currently, he's kicking better than BB, but obviously, if you average it, BB is still higher.
But if you ignore some of BB misses his %age is even higher
-
@Duluth As @Chester-Draws says, it's way more complex than just percentages. You also need to look at where on the field they were taken, for example. Longer distance kicks, for example, BB doesn't take them (Jordie does), so can't miss them either.
Also, game management is way more important than goal kicking. Especially with more than one goal kicker in the squad.
-
I am taking Jordie Barrett over Richie.

@Stargazer said in All Blacks starting 10: Beauden Barrett or Richie Mo'unga:
@shark Yep, but Hansen said that when they could still pick Dmac. They'll re-think some of their plans. Having said that, Mo'unga is probably the better 10 and BB the better fullback of the two, so why would they move RM to fullback, if they can move BB there?
But at AB level Barrett is a better 10 than Richie (right now).
I like the lineup @shark put up but with Crotty and Goodhue starting and ALB off the bench. ALB has been a key man in that second half for us.

ha ha, I read that as 'over Richie McCaw', and thought you were trolling.
... and now I'm smirking

Bullshit Article did he forget the Crusaders were also in his words DEPLETED no Owen Franks,Sam Whitelock,Will Jordan and the last 30 minutes all the subs were on for the Crusaders
and the string of penalties as he put it came from a group of poor SA Refs you can only play what gets put up against you. Poor Article -
@Canerbry and some people are also forgetting the fact that Beaudy can do things no other player in the world can do, which in-turn has also won us plenty of test matches in the past. You take the good with the bad. Carter wasn't always perfect, but he performed when it mattered and I expect the same with Beauden. Class is permanent and Beaudy more than makes up for his odd kicking inaccuracy with some sublime footy.
