@Bones Goldie...
Nah, never seemed like that with Goldie.
In the dictionary under "Tin-arse" they must have a picture of Beauds.

Ben Smith is a Unicorn?
Jane pushed through into his early thirties at AB level. In all those exceptions except for Mils I never really would have thought their speed or step comprised a big part of their game. Whereas Dagg and Cullen, while fullbacks, were never the same after they lost a gear and their step.
Will be interesting with Beaudy like that - he is the magic 27 years old now and even the most ardent BB fan would have to admit if he loses his pace he doesn't have much else to fall back on at test level.
Even the most ardent opponent would have to admit that Barrett has done a hell of a lot more than run fast.

No doubt, but it is the straw that stirs the drink for him. As Bones points out his anticipation and support play is first class too, but without the pace to get there it doesn't really matter as much.
This isn't a slight on him Cullen did a hell of a lot more than run fast and step too, but once he lost a yard or two he very quickly wasn't AB material and at a less demanding position.

While I understand your sentiment we don't know if he was no longer AB material. He was still the best 15 in the 2003 S12 and then he got completely broken in Ireland. He may have developed along the lines of Blanco who was similar as a flair player in the first half of his career but then developed his game to be more steady while being in the right place at the right time.
I do think that much of Barrett's value comes from his flair and speed though, we all know he's not a traditional organising 10.

This article hits on a few points raised in this thread. Must be a coincidence.
I note that the writer ensures that he avoids discussing Joe Rok, who may have dropped off the test roster as the other mentioned players did, but also continued a respected and valuable career in the NH.
Dropping from the extreme level required at the ABs (partly due to other options available) doesn't necessarily mean the skills have dropped for lesser levels.
Jules is likely an effective type of winger as long as there is a gameplan to put him in the right positions. -

@taniwharugby yeah it's crazy innit? Saw it with Rok, Jane, Nehe, Caleb - oh wait, hang on.
Caleb Ralph would be one of the few who still has the same speed.
He had deceptive pace - was slower than he looked.

He could even make it look like forwards could run him down.

Reminds me of Caleb Ralph getting run down by Chresten Davis in an NPC match some years back.

Been mentioned, but you have to wonder about the common sense of this Toulon owner. He seems to recruit based exclusively on hype or endorsement deals rather than actually check their present playing ability. If he'd even conducted the most basic due diligence he would have found out that JS is now shit. Same goes for Kwade. And the less said about Henson (aka the most overrated rugby player of all time) the better. And now he's got NMS who wouldn't be able to evade a geriatric these days. Surely he must have people around him that know this, but are they too scared to offer an opinion? It's just so weird that it keeps on happening.
so harsh but true. I've never seen a winger make a simple try look like such hard work as he managed last year.
How about the 2017 intercept try when BB did that tricky shit. For 99% of wingers it would have been lock the gate, but he was run down with ridiculous ease. It's a shame because the 2015 vintage was absolutely superb.
Reminiscent of Caleb Ralph getting run down by Chresten Davis in an NPC match some years back.
@SammyC you've got to get in early to beat @MN5 to a Caleb comment!

More nonsense from Boudjellal.
"On the contrary. I find his behaviour unacceptable," Boudjellal said. "Do not come to Toulon as a tourist - when you're paid a lot of money, the least you can do is give [all of ] yourself. "I went to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup and I always wonder if it's the same player, the same man."
So he indeed expected that the 2018-19 version of Savea would be the same ast the 2015 version? What planet does that man live on?
.
Savea's recent trip to Fiji to attend brother Ardie's wedding appears to be the tipping point for Boudjellal's frustrations. With his side eliminated from the lucrative European Cup and currently an under-achieving 11th in the French Top 14, the outspoken Frenchman has pinpointed Savea's apparent lack of commitment as a major reason for a disappointing season. "When he was in Fiji, he did not look unhappy," Boudjellal said.
Wait, do you expect a man to cry at his brother's wedding? Is he supposed to be unhappy?
.
"I cannot think it's normal for a player paid so much to go on holiday to Fiji for a month in December ... he just had to attend his brother's wedding, not take long leave."
Uhm, it was in his contract that he could leave for his brother's wedding and for that long. If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have agreed to that during the contract negotiations, but don't start complaing about it afterwards.

He could have at least watched all the other games Fatty played in at the RWC rather than the France game.
