@nzzp fair enough thanks. it is not something that i have thought about in rugby but have heard it in football as mentioned.
Difference with football/soccer is that internationals are not the apex of the game like they are in Rugby. The english football manager is just another coach - it's the supporters who are (and don't take this wrong way lurking englishers) deluding themselves as to the quality of their international side.

You are wrong there. Nobody in England rates their football team. They don't even sell out stadiums anymore.
I'm sure they'll support them in the WC but there is zero expectation of them!
You're right of course, up to and until we go to a major championship, then the media fellate the team and manager and the whole country puts out the St George's flag, including those really annoying ones stuck on all the cars and then we get kicked out in the group stages again.
I thought you traditionally made the knockouts and lost on penalties. (Nice little joke in the movie 'Flushed Away' where England lose the final in a shootout.)
Our soccer team have many ways to let us down. Penalties is very much one of them.

And a lot of âplaymakerâ ability going. The 13 shirt is going to be an interesting selection. Options include Slade, Lozowski and Francis but then youâd have a fancy Dan at 10, 12 and 13. Daly would be my choice with maybe Cipriani at 15 if Brown has had his day.

Love how they state that those players are unavailable. Is this a cop-out if they lose? Looking at that list I see a few 'game changers' but mostly run of the mill English test players. Might be wrong though

Sure. Don't pick your best players, then that's your excuse for losing. Eddie obviously hasn't thought about actually winning.
The list of unavailable is interesting though. It is a mixture of injuries, players being rested due to fatigue/form and a few thanks for the memories. There's around 10 on that list that would be contenders for the test side that are injured, 3 (IMO) rested.

Not an experienced team. Personally, the only strength is the loose trio + flyhalf.
Midfield, front row are poor.
Outside backs and locks are untested for the most part.
England must be hungry to break a 10 year losing streak, best chance is this weekend.
At 8 out of 15, Rassie certainly is ticking boxes. Positions 2, 3, 12 certainly only there for the above, and while Beast has been solid over the years, he doesn't deserve to be there ahead of Kitshoff.
Might even give this game a watch as I am a sadist.
