Hurricanes v Reds

Given the Reds shipped 60 points v the Sunwolves thier d has been good tonight.
-
All the tackling just took its toll on the Reds. Nice short pass and Lousi in untouched.
Canes will score 50 I reckon

I think the ref is getting confused. Once Umaga-Jensen touches the ball he's fair game to be tackled while trying to regather.
By the laws today that should have been a penalty and a card.
Although how can you card a player who was trying but denied the opportunity to catch the ball due to the opposition player. That would have been unduly harsh.
I think O'Keefe got it right in the end.
See my previous post, I agree a card is harsh. But that's how it's been ruled this year and the ref initially went to his pocket before TJP pulled the wool over his eyes.

Once again the Canes put the win away but very far from perfect which seems to be the story of our season.
-
@no-quarter very smart by TJ distracting the ref with it though, otherwise it was a YC all day.
THe effort to try to regather the ball and the video of him being tackled saved him.
-
Tackling optional tonight fellas.
Bit shit that.
-
@kiwimurph They missed him badly I thought. The Canes lacked punch and were very side to side with their attack tonight which became predictable as the game went on.

Because if he hadn't been held, he would have been very close to catching the ball, right? So a slight hold(and fortunately obvious in the TV replay) is the difference between sanctions of a knock on scrum, and a YC and penalty? Is something wrong there?? and its only because TJP really demanded it the Ref considered it? We don't want half backs feeling more entitled to referee the game than they do already.

Canes played like they have done all season against "inferior opposition".
Pretty much in cruise mode and won untroubled.
Hard not to have Ben Lam in black for me. Maybe moreso against tighter teams than the French but I can't recall for some time a player who can make something out of nothing, so often. Have to forgive the droppsie.
I think they should give him a run against the French to see how he goes.
I would prefer they start the experiments for RWC 2019 now rather than EOYT 2018.
Jordie looked class to me tonight also.

Frustrating game to watch. With the amount of possesion and territory they got they should have scored 50.
Thought the game was summed up by the very last play. 1 second left on the clock and instead of delaying for the hooter or passing it deep to be kicked out they went for one last hit up and almost got turned over but managed to scramble it out.Thought the call for the non yellow for UJ was correct. You can't penalise/card someone if they were prevented from catching the attempted intercept. However not a canes penalty because you are allowed to tackle a player who is attempting to regather.
Speaking of umaga-jensen. Thought he went pretty well. Nice and strong. Jordie was good too. Hope that tackle isn't too bad leading to a citing. Haven't seen a replay.
