Hurricanes v Reds

I think the ref is getting confused. Once Umaga-Jensen touches the ball he's fair game to be tackled while trying to regather.
By the laws today that should have been a penalty and a card.
Because he knocked the ball up and not down. Knock it up, you can regather. Knock it down, you can't. That alone makes the it worth thinking about,

Yeah Umaga-Jensen lucky not to be penalised. But no more than that.
-
Given the Reds shipped 60 points v the Sunwolves thier d has been good tonight.
-
All the tackling just took its toll on the Reds. Nice short pass and Lousi in untouched.
Canes will score 50 I reckon

Although how can you card a player who was trying but denied the opportunity to catch the ball due to the opposition player. That would have been unduly harsh.
I think O'Keefe got it right in the end.
See my previous post, I agree a card is harsh. But that's how it's been ruled this year and the ref initially went to his pocket before TJP pulled the wool over his eyes.

Once again the Canes put the win away but very far from perfect which seems to be the story of our season.
-
@no-quarter very smart by TJ distracting the ref with it though, otherwise it was a YC all day.
THe effort to try to regather the ball and the video of him being tackled saved him.
-
Tackling optional tonight fellas.
Bit shit that.
-
@kiwimurph They missed him badly I thought. The Canes lacked punch and were very side to side with their attack tonight which became predictable as the game went on.

Because if he hadn't been held, he would have been very close to catching the ball, right? So a slight hold(and fortunately obvious in the TV replay) is the difference between sanctions of a knock on scrum, and a YC and penalty? Is something wrong there?? and its only because TJP really demanded it the Ref considered it? We don't want half backs feeling more entitled to referee the game than they do already.
