They've only bottled it if we lose. Otherwise it's a masterstroke.
Ultimately the winning and losing will be done from the 10 jersey on down. So it's hardly panic stations and I'm confident the ABs will win the breakdown and tackle.
Purely in regards to Hansen's selections, it's been pretty poor planning. He released Savea and Barrett to the Canes because Hansen said they weren't in the frame to play the Lions going forward and wanted them to get a chance (while patting himself on the back after Ioane's selection). Then somehow after one of the stranger tests in recent times Hansen has done a complete U-turn on everything.
Pretty harsh on those guys.
Does Joride kick? Not ideal in your first start, but perhaps that is part of the story?
I think the issue with Ioane is his work rate - when the forwards were a man down a bit of help from one of the wingers carting the ball up would have been good.
I know all these guys are hardened pros and all that, but a young guy making his debut in that cauldron, maybe a bit more on field guidance wouldn't have gone amiss? I think he's been very hard done by.

Biggest shock reading the team sheet was B Barrett has 52 caps.
He'll piss 100
He ought to but in 2003 you would have said the same about a certain Mr J Wilkinson who "stalled" at 91 for England. Nearly four years out with injury screwed that idea.

@rotated Jordie is a better goal kicker than Boden
Neither is a natural and do you want to bog down Jordie with that duty on what is essentially his debut?
-
I probably wouldve started Fekitoa to add some starch in defense , but .... ive coached no one I guess ,
Trust in shag
The jordie and Laumape selections do make me feel a little nervous

No change to the BIL starting XV

No change to the BIL starting XV
Or their bench.
Fuck that'd be nice.
-
One our greenest back lines for a long time?

@Gary I disagree on JB defence for the Canes he has been very good. Better than Dagg
What? 59% tackle success is very good? Ummmm....
-
A golden opportunity for the lions really ,
1-1 , ABs with a slightly disjointed looking side ,a french ref who they relate to better than us ,
still picking us to win, but not with alot of confidence , i think they go into this game in far better shape than we may have thought earlier

To put a positive spin on the selections it is a bold move by Hansen and co, and they are hoping for some Canes magic. The result will determine if they are champs or chumps.
So we have a different midfield and back three in each test - I can't remember the last time that occurred, even allowing for the injuries.

Laumape will be the key. He made large inroads against Sexton/Farrell. If SOB is tied up back marking him, it creates space elsewhere.
I'm surprised that Gatland didn't go with Te'o again - Farrell's defence is squeaky.

@Crucial Let's hope they stink on Sat night!
They will and NZ will be overcome with it.

I still don't see the point of having S Barrett on the bench. If Squire is still not 100% fit than that decision is easier to make but I would expect both Whitelock and Retallick to play the full 80 mins so then it is loose forward cover you want. Ardie will replace Cane and Kaino will also be replaced at some stage despite only playing 70 mins across the 1st and 2nd tests. So to me Barrett is there more as injury cover than providing impact. The fact that he's only spent 12 mins on the field in the 2 tests proves this. I'd have been tempted to include Ioane in the reserves.
