New Zealand miss out in player of the year awards

New Zealand miss out in player of the year awards

New Zealand have been snubbed in the World Rugby Player of the Year awards with not a single men's or women's player making it onto the 15s shortlist for what must be the first time in history.

And rightly so, looking at the current standing pre France, Sititi should be the only possible contender this year.

@Duluth said in All Blacks MOTM v France:

    Current Standings:

    ** 23 Wallace Sititi**
    15 Tupou Vaa'i
    12 Caleb Clarke
    10 Patrick Tuipulotu
    10 Cortez Ratima
    10 Codie Taylor
    10 Damian McKenzie
    9 Sam Darry
    9 Asafo Aumua
    8 Anton Lienert-Brown
    7 Dalton Papali'i
    7 Jordie Barret
    6 Tamaiti Williams
    5 Rieko Ioane
    5 Beauden Barrett
    5 Sevu Reece
    4 Mark Tele'a
    3 Sam Cane
    3 Scott Barrett
    3 Samipeni Finau
    3 Billy Proctor
    2 Will Jordan
    2 Cam Roigard
    1 Pasilio Tosi
    1 Stephen Perofeta
    1 Ethan de Groot
    1 Ardie Savea
    1 Ethan Blackadder

It's quite interesting looking at that list: no love for the consistently excellent Lomax, while quite a few votes for guys who have been largely disappointing.

Wallace Sititi would probably be up for POTY if he weren't in his first season.

Cortez Ratima probably should've been nominated for Breakthrough POTY too. Definitely a better shout than Jamie Osborne (who was good in July but has only played four games this year). SFM is lucky to make the list given he isn't playing in November (but he was probably the front runner after the Rugby Championship so I'm more forgiving on that front). Alfred Molina from Argentina, Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula from Fiji and Chandler Cunningham-South have also been there or thereabouts but tough when there's only room for four names.

His last two performances on this NH tour probably put paid to that.

Out of the four contenders for PotY, two I agree with, but my vote would go to PSDT over Kolbe. I don't know who the Irish lad is.

Sititi for breakthrough should be a walk up start. Can't think of any other debtant with his impact.

Props don't get PotY, ZERO nominations in the entire time out of 124 or so

I know you are talking about out votes, but still

Surprised Valentini hasn't been nominated for POTY, he's been immense despite what goes on around him.

PSDT should be Player Of The Year, but I think it will go to Kolbe.

Wallace Sititi should be Breakthrough Player Of the Year, but I think it will go to the South African 10.

Laidlaw has to wait decades to be nominated alongside two chicks who have been playing for five minutes.

Well Kennedy at 170 at least played in the 90s, 167, 168 and 169 only played this century to beat him in.
