@Landers92 heard from a good source he would have stayed in Rugby if his NPC contract had been topped up as he was only 41k with his NZ 7s contract
Would have developed into a superb centre in the XVs game
His top end pace would be better than many
For me this is a genuine loss given the shortage of midfield backs in NZ -
Contracts are pretty fluid nowadays. A lot likely rests on when Mo'unga returns to NZ.
Pinning your hopes on a guy who may or may not come back to NZ and who has no guarantee of being the player he was when he left? I hope that isn't Razor's master plan
and in fairness....even the player he was when he left wasn;t withing critique at international level

He was no DC. But neither is anyone else. If they overpay him to get him home, I don't like the message it sends. DMac might have just turned a corner in Dublin only for Razor to bench him for sub prime BB. Meanwhile there are young and up and coming guys in lots of positions that could do with more money to incentivise them to stay longer, and guys like Plummer who decide it's time to leave when they are still in their prime

of course, cant compare anyone to DC really...but those out there that think a 30 year old RM will come back and be DC level good after time overseas and solve all problems....are a worry

A fully contracted sevens player gets SR level salaries don't they? Edit: the lowest tier retainer is $50K.
Leo's PU contract would be a minimum of $25K.

Totally agree. The person we should be most worried about is Razor

$75K? No wonder he's off

even the 30th dude on the roster gets $130k

that is a remarkably pedestrian list.
-
@mikedogz Charles Piutau and Steven Luatua don't appear to be in this guy's lists.
They're probably the two that I would most have liked to keep.
Based on these lists, anyway, we haven't been too badly hurt by the exodus to Europe. Some guys who turned out to be very handy, but not many superstars.
Bundee was one who got away.

Surely the lack of money on offer in rugby at the emerging level compared to that offered by NRL teams is a problem? It is draining away players who could be NPC/SR or potential late bloomers who might otherwise be potential future ABs

Guys like Simon Mannix and Jimmy Gopperth come to mind, as journeymen who end up having long and productive careers in the UK

And Nick Evans? Probably slightly more talented than a journeyman but always in DCs shadow

Peak Evans would walk into the squad now

What about the present crop, because there are a tonne of guys who have gone over in the last few years, Jack Goodhue, Lam many names not on that list. An interesting thing is a couple of Kiwis who went over to rep for England like Will Heinze and Brad Shields have returned home at or near the end of their careers, wonder if we see a few more doing that.
