yes.
-

However, the 4 penalties and YC point point to a below average game for me. Take those out and I'd have probably voted him top 3. The penalties seem a bit out of character for a guy who's usually a very accurate player. Still think he's got quite a gap on Sevea for the 7 jersey. Was interesting that Savea wasn't needed for the third test. Probably shows where he is in the pecking order.

I don't think it's too much of a concern for Ardie. If you consider that even when Cane was the preferred number 2 openside to McCaw, sometimes the coaches just went with a bigger body on the bench (eg Vito, Messam). I think we will continue to see them mix it up with the bench selections. It's been a successful ploy to keep players hungry IMO.

I think Ardie will get a start in the RC. The recovery and travel is a factor. -
I would almost be certain that Ardie and Cane will be in the 23 against the Aussies ,

It's whether they decide on a bigger mix against the likes of the Boks ? -

What the hell, I thought we rate players on the Ardie Savea cameo rating these days and now you want to bring it back to actual stats?

Actually, reading all those stats Squire shapes up pretty well across the board for the amount of time he was on the field.

Not sure why a Ta$man fan is down on his contribution, his Palmy roots maybe? ;)

I did say he was good - I'm just not sure a ten minute cameo is going to bump him up the pecking order ahead of Dixon (it won't in the minds of those who matter).
-

yeah that coaching team don't know what they are doing, I mean fans can see more clearly than them...

some of the comments on social media crack me up though, anyone would think this coaching team do not know what they are doing and we had just lost a series the way some bang on about their faves who don't make it!
-

Maybe the wine was kicking in, maybe I was distracted by inane statements from Mum and the other half ( fucken hell, watching Rugby with them was hard work ) but was Squire really that amazing ? definitely decent, but was his impact better than Saveas ?

I don't think he was amaszing, but neither was Ardie in his 2, and talking about purely as an impact off the bench & adding linebreaking punch, Squire did more than Ardie.

The AB bench is very much impact focused, in the old days your bench guy had to be there to swap in like for like with your starter, now our bench guy tends to be someone to come on & play wider, faster & take advantage of the disjointed nature of the last 20 in tests. Its why we have bench guys who, when the starter is injured pre game often stay on the bench & a totally different guy comes in.

Dixon has got pretty heavily marked down in the press but I thought he did a good starter job - IE he tackled well, played tight, did exactly what we want from our starting 6. Basically looked like a guy trying to play like Kaino. I think the jury is still out on that slot & Luatua still has a chance to get back in.
-

Im not 100 % sold on Dixon yet as our future starting test 6 ,

I might have it wrong , but just have concerns his best at this level may be efficient , but lack the dominance we have been used to from our 6 ,

But its too early to make that call obviously
-

So the awesome try he got in the final last year was the exception rather than the norm then ?

I rarely watch Super Rugby so any and all info on this bloke is appreciated.
-

he said it himself, he felt good on defence, but found the pace of attack a step up and the lungs burning.

He's had 1 test and he wasn't rubbish (faint praise I know...) so warrants more time, whether this is in TRC or EOYT is another thing.
-

Like I said it's too early , and I don't want to start knocking him because I wish him well .

Just a gut feel we lose some physical authority -

He seems to have a bit of that intangible "hard man" quality from what I've seen. Again, when AB teams were selected up until the late 2000s I had a really good grasp on how good player xyz was based on lots of Super Rugby but as life has moved on I've found fuck all time to watch so have to resort to youse fullas letting me know.
-
And we have to be careful using Kaino as the bench mark , we can fall into the trap of taking players for granted , kaino is made of granite , and maybe whoever we choose is going to fall short of him in that area .

The dearly departed bloke who wore the jersey before him was too. Funny how Messam doesn't have that aura as much despite his pugilistic skills. I guess not quite having the same sting his tackles is part of the reason for that.
-

No shame in falling short of that benchmark at this stage of his career. When they started at international level neither Kaino or Messam had anything close to the physical presence they have now.
-

i felt that way about dixon before watching that super final, and it changed my mind: it was the biggest game of the season with some pretty damn good ABs playing, and he was a comfortable man of the match in my opinion.

new environment, new players around him, new combinations and patterns - a solid performance first up, but he'll get better. displacing kaino is not going to be an easy feat, and steven luatua has the potential to be one hell of a player too. it's good to be a new zealander.
-

Hopefully Ioane will be the replacement for Kaino at six unless he is put at eight. Or perhaps we play too sixes. Cant wait to see him in the AB environment.
-
