U20 quotas just lost to Argentina as well. And the sports minister has the nerve to say that it's teething problems and that we need to pray for the racists. If that's the case then I pray for you Mr. Mbalula

Nothing like a bok team today. no pride, urgency or ferocity. Â
-
Fairplay to Ireland. They played with heart and courage.

SA strike me as finished (at least in the short term) as a world power. Imagine if the ABs had their record in recent times! -

Only game I didn't get to watch. 14 men v SA in SA. A great win. Congrats to PH and the rest of the Irish Ferners. Great day, enjoy it. :drinks:

Well, I looked up the red card. Â My first reaction was yellow not red, but then I watched a second time. Â I think the green 6 takes off far too late to seriously charge the kick. Â That, combined with the contact to the head means I can see why the ref went red.

Â

Still feels a bit weird for something that clearly doesn't have intent, but I can see why they got to where they got to.
-

SA clearly in trouble as a rugby power. Ireland with its full squad and 15 men on the field you would expect to have an even chance of beating South Africa if the game was played in Dublin.

Â

14 men and away from home was something that was pretty much unthinkable. Not now.
-

Stander turned his body because he didn't want a front on collision. If there was a front on collision it would have been far more dangerous for both players but he probably wouldn't have been penalised. I think it was a red card by the regulations but it shows how silly those regulations are.

Is SA really in that much trouble? It's not like they beat Ireland every time they play them. It's now 3-3 in their last 6 matches.

In Dublin it has always been a fair fight granted,, but the Irish haven't even come close on South African soil.
-

It was only their 8th test in South Africa. Before Ireland's injury crisis I thought they would nick one test. It was more the circumstances of the win which surprised me.

Â

I reckon South Africa are still a good team though.
-

TBF, this was the first match on South African soil since 2004 so these games are really the first since Ireland have become a reasonably big boy ;).
-

Agree, and they appear to be a much fresher team than either Oz or the ABs are - from coach through to players.

Â

With all the whining about transformation how on earth did Lambie get a start in this match?
-

Jantjies and April seem to be his main competition. I just don't know why they don't make sure Kriel is starting.
-

I assume Jantjies didn't start due to coming back from injury but I was mighty surprised to see Lambie starting.
-

After watching the Saxons v SA A, I would say April is a work in progress.

Watching the game yesterday, I thought Ireland's legs would give way at some point, but they didn't.

That was Ireland's 15th test of the season starting with the 4 warm-up RWC games last August, 5 RWC games and 5 Six Nations.

The only difference this season was that none of the provincial teams made it through to the European Cup stages, so the amount of games they had to play at the business end of the season was reduced for teams like Leinster, Munster & Ulster.

I'll wait to see if fatigue sets in next week or not. However, the Irish boys will have grown an extra leg from winning that. And now they've got the 'never won in SA' monkey off their backs, the pressure is off somewhat - mentally.

I presume that Stander is gone for the rest of the series, but at least they'll have 15 men on the park for 80 minutes next match (well I hope they do). I'm hoping that Schmidt gives a couple of the young tyros from Connacht a run next week and see what they can do. A bit of more gas in the backline from the likes of Gilroy and Healy on the wings - the two top try scorers in the league this season would be a welcome fillip. And O'Halloran at FB in the third test.

Everyone in the squad deserves some decent time on the pitch, so win or lose next week, I hope Schmidt does that.
-
Well if England and Ireland win again next week they'll have a point.

That's big if Billy, but yeah if that happens then obviously SH rugby is in terminal decline :)

Not the ABs luckily...

Â

I would hate to have the Springboks as my team: poor results, mass migration to European clubs, forced team selections...

Â

England looks likely to be some force by 2019.

Â

I'm picking Australia to bounce back this weekend, and I suppose SA will win at altitude, but they were pretty dodgy in the weekend: big men smashing it up seemed to be the sum of their tactics.
