TBF, this was the first match on South African soil since 2004 so these games are really the first since Ireland have become a reasonably big boy ;).
-

It was only their 8th test in South Africa. Before Ireland's injury crisis I thought they would nick one test. It was more the circumstances of the win which surprised me.

I reckon South Africa are still a good team though.

Agree, and they appear to be a much fresher team than either Oz or the ABs are - from coach through to players.

With all the whining about transformation how on earth did Lambie get a start in this match?
-

Jantjies and April seem to be his main competition. I just don't know why they don't make sure Kriel is starting.
-

I assume Jantjies didn't start due to coming back from injury but I was mighty surprised to see Lambie starting.
-

After watching the Saxons v SA A, I would say April is a work in progress.

A bit of more gas in the backline from the likes of Gilroy and Healy on the wings - the two top try scorers in the league this season would be a welcome fillip. And O'Halloran at FB in the third test.

Everyone in the squad deserves some decent time on the pitch, so win or lose next week, I hope Schmidt does that.

Well if England and Ireland win again next week they'll have a point.

That's big if Billy, but yeah if that happens then obviously SH rugby is in terminal decline :)

Not the ABs luckily...

I would hate to have the Springboks as my team: poor results, mass migration to European clubs, forced team selections...

England looks likely to be some force by 2019.

I'm picking Australia to bounce back this weekend, and I suppose SA will win at altitude, but they were pretty dodgy in the weekend: big men smashing it up seemed to be the sum of their tactics.
-

Congrats Ireland, great result.

I'm sure the media will now take this weekend's two wins from three over SH teams as some kind of global power shift. I bet the Walrus is typing and reaching for his tissues as I speak.

Eh no is the short response. There's been enough one-off wonders by NH teams not to descend into that folly. This would need 2-3 years of similar results to even start thinking along those lines.

I did an analysis of trends since 2000 for tests between the top 10 early last year. Must update it again and will post on here. -

I'm seeing quite a few SA facebook mates that live in England think about just supporting England now the quotas are taking over. I expect that if Ireland win the series then that will further enhance their decision.

Gee I feel sorry for Bok supporters at the moment.
-

You and me both pal. A good mate of mine is from SA and in the couple of years I've known him he has been a staunch fan, even when the ABs have won he's still pointed out how well Schalk, Victor, Bryan or whoever played.

Gave him a bit of shit on Sunday and he just sort of shrugged his shoulders.....he pretty much doesn't care now, their team is losing supporters like him by the fucken truckload.
-

Oh we know that for sure PH, and the NH v SH is meaningless anyway, it's the teams that matter.

I'm in generous mood so I'll give Eddie Butler the benefit of the doubt and blame the subs: "Southern comfort as England and Ireland turned rugby world on its head" https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2016/jun/12/england-wales-ireland-southern-hemisphere-eddie-butler
-

'Fresher team than ABs or Oz' is the bit I looked at and misunderstood.

Generally I'd use the word to say something was more lively, energetic, less tired, etc.

My mistake. -

Bit pissed that Highlanders decided to spout this during the series. Still, he had said that he would give Nucifora an answer in July as to whether he's willing to renew until RWC 2019 from end of next season.

It would be a crying shame if he goes, but I can understand why he'd be in strong demand. Nucifora went so far to say that if he decides not to renew they had a succession plan already in place. Ulster fans are hoping that it's not Les Kiss as he's made a great start in his first season with them. Erasmus has just signed up with Munster so unlikely.

There are options in Irish coaches - O'Shea has just taken over Italy so very unlikely. McCall at Saracens, Humphreys at Gloucester, Jackman at Grenoble, but none with test experience. Whisper money says Pat Lam might be approached to move up from his job at Connacht. He'd certainly be popular.
