<p>It was only their 8th test in South Africa. Before Ireland's injury crisis I thought they would nick one test. It was more the circumstances of the win which surprised me.</p>

<p>TBF, this was the first match on South African soil since 2004 so these games are really the first since Ireland have become a reasonably big boy ;).</p> -

<p>I assume Jantjies didn't start due to coming back from injury but I was mighty surprised to see Lambie starting.</p> -
<p>After watching the Saxons v SA A, I would say April is a work in progress.</p>

Watching the game yesterday, I thought Ireland's legs would give way at some point, but they didn't.<br><br>That was Ireland's 15th test of the season starting with the 4 warm-up RWC games last August, 5 RWC games and 5 Six Nations.<br><br>The only difference this season was that none of the provincial teams made it through to the European Cup stages, so the amount of games they had to play at the business end of the season was reduced for teams like Leinster, Munster & Ulster.<br><br>I'll wait to see if fatigue sets in next week or not. However, the Irish boys will have grown an extra leg from winning that. And now they've got the 'never won in SA' monkey off their backs, the pressure is off somewhat - mentally.<br><br>I presume that Stander is gone for the rest of the series, but at least they'll have 15 men on the park for 80 minutes next match (well I hope they do). I'm hoping that Schmidt gives a couple of the young tyros from Connacht a run next week and see what they can do. A bit of more gas in the backline from the likes of Gilroy and Healy on the wings - the two top try scorers in the league this season would be a welcome fillip. And O'Halloran at FB in the third test.<br><br>Everyone in the squad deserves some decent time on the pitch, so win or lose next week, I hope Schmidt does that.

<p>I'm picking Australia to bounce back this weekend, and I suppose SA will win at altitude, but they were pretty dodgy in the weekend: big men smashing it up seemed to be the sum of their tactics.</p> -

Eh no is the short response. There's been enough one-off wonders by NH teams not to descend into that folly. This would need 2-3 years of similar results to even start thinking along those lines. <br><br>
I did an analysis of trends since 2000 for tests between the top 10 early last year. Must update it again and will post on here. -
<p>I'm seeing quite a few SA facebook mates that live in England think about just supporting England now the quotas are taking over. I expect that if Ireland win the series then that will further enhance their decision.</p>

<p>You and me both pal. A good mate of mine is from SA and in the couple of years I've known him he has been a staunch fan, even when the ABs have won he's still pointed out how well Schalk, Victor, Bryan or whoever played.</p>

<p>Gave him a bit of shit on Sunday and he just sort of shrugged his shoulders.....he pretty much doesn't care now, their team is losing supporters like him by the fucken truckload.</p> -

'Fresher team than ABs or Oz' is the bit I looked at and misunderstood. <br><br>
Generally I'd use the word to say something was more lively, energetic, less tired, etc. <br><br>
My mistake.
