Not sure what it will take to get the teams to speed up the over rates, but the penalty is thoroughly deserved by both teams.
Australia missed out on the final we won because of over rates. That was sweet.

So who do we need to win in the Aus V Ind series to give us the best chance of making the WTC final? That is a very different question to who we would like to play in the final of course.

I was playing with the WTC predictor the other and the best outcome for us would be four draws between Aus and Ind. Somehow I imagine that is super unlikely to happen.

Yeah. India couldn't even make a match last 5 days against us, and they just walloped Australia who must be even worse!
(That gloating feels so damned hollow after last week but what the hell).

I saw Latham come out and say the catching is not an issue, that you just sometimes have bad days etc, which I hope was just something he was saying to deflect the media while at the same time he had the boys in the field every day practicing basic catching over and over.
And given this article, I hope to God that is the case as we are the worst fielding side in the world bar Bangladesh at the moment which is both costly and embarrassing.

Those sort of stats point to either can not concentrate to a test level standard.Or lack of repetitive practice to make catching 2nd nature.

@Chris In the cases of Latham and Conway, I wonder if they spend too much time during fielding practice wearing keepers' gloves.
I don't think Philips keeps anymore, so you'd hope he doesn't.
I don't think we've been a good fielding team for at least five years. As another example, I reckon the Aussies hit the stumps much more regularly than we do when they shy at them.

Apart from the last test, Mitchell has actually been the worst culprit in NZ's catching decline. He used to be bucket hands, now he is butter fingers. So he is a good choice to roll out to the media for question on that topic. WHat has changed in the last 2 years? just getting old, or are they doing something less/different.
I know they're not going to give a 'we are useless, and we've been doing it all wrong' answer. But, some of the soundbites are a bit grating.

^^ Notice Ajaz's average. Dropping him for home tests made more sense (like back in 2021) when we had 3 seamers with long careers averaging in the 27s and an up-and-comer averaging in the 18s.
Now he has a better career average than Tim.
Doesn't necesarily mean he is well suited for a home test, but the case is less compelling when the senior seamer averages 30.
