No one has confirmed that it is the entire starting XV, in fact I very much doubt that. Too bold for Razor, and too much info for England. It will be a good chunk of the 23 but nowhere near all the starting XV
-
@Machpants See the last line.
The only thing that makes me think that maybe they'll send the entire starting XV is Razor specifically saying they'll take 6 AB XV players - because the math does add up to that.
-
Yeah I getcha, but I just can't see it
-
If it was right - then team for Japan, something pretty close to:
Williams, Aumua, Newell
Tuipolotu, Darry
Blackadder, Papali'i , Jacobson
Roigard, Barrett
ALB, Proctor
Tele'a, Love, PerofetaTu'ungafasi, Bell, Tosi, Lord, Finau
Perenara, Havili, Naholo -

Perenara, Havili, NaholoSolid 23, but Love as winger, not sure about that. I think Love will start at 15 with Perofeta covering 10/15 from the bench.
So maybe Naholo starts on the left, Telea on the right with Love at 15.

I thought he said up to 6?

They haven't picked the exact teams I would have, but I haven't really struggled to see their logic - with maybe a couple of exceptions. But, I'm prepared to put that down to me not being a pro coach!
Remember when Foster picked ScoBa at 6 vs England in the QF in 19 and benched Sam? And then didn't attack the english lineout? Yeah, I remember that 3D chess, or coaches just playing hunches and going wrong.
Edit: Hansen and semi. As you were.
Also dropped Bender from the side.

@Bones three of the six are Otago players so minimal impact on the NPC finals

Is that what that line of reasoning was about?
-
@Bones ah yeh it was replying the original comments you’re replying too. Several mentions of who was going out of the ABs XV lot and how it would impact the NPC finals. So, an answer to both questions
-
The more I look at this fixture the more nervous I get , the level of opposition is one thing, but the consecutive nature of playing every week against a different opponent bringing different challenges is the part that has me most concerned
-
Updates to the squad with Lakai and Lord coming in for injured players. Seven players from the AB XV squad to travel with them initially. Holland, Haig, Bower, Lio-Willie, Slater, Lam and Plummer. Interesting Lio-Willie picked ahead of Hoskins Sotutu. https://www.allblacks.com/news/update-to-all-blacks-squad-for-japan-and-northern-tour
-
FFS Lio - Willie over Sotutu. Probably not too surprising because Lio - Willie is closer to the hybrid loosie they seem to prefer. It's getting like the Black Caps and their pop gun 'all rounders'.
-
Colour me surprised, Blackadder is injured? Poor bastard cannot catch a break on injury front!!

Clearly Razor doesn't subscribe to the win the collision up front idea. I seem to recall Wayne Smith's AB teams as being similar, very good ball playing, but lacking the physicality to go down the middle (I could be wrong)
-
With nearly every opportunity Razor disappoints. Lio-Willie over Sotutu ffs, which franchise does he play for?
-
Crazy crap, Lio-Willie, so England still on for Sotutu
-
With 3 loosies unavailable and only 2 loosies called up to replace them - Lio Willie does provide more cover than Sotutu - but this does fly in the face of the idea that Sotutu was next cab off the rank.

Surf Features channelling his best Henry Ford: "You can have any player you like, as long as it's Mitchell Santner"

Based on the extra AB XV players, it looks like Taylor and SB/Vaa'i will be amongst the players going directly to England. But none of the halfbacks.
-
Ha ha ha, no Sotutu?
Favorite son Lio Willie and some kid.
Fucking trolls. -
Lol, what did Sotutu do to Razor? Lio-Willie wasn't even close to matching the form of Sotutu during Super.
-
Yea that's pretty comical. Why did they even bother picking Hoskins in the AB XV? Seems like they have 0 desire to give him higher honours.
-
I rate it, Sotutu gave nothing in that quarter final against wellington. The guy needs to show some ticker and get stuck in, most other AB or ABXV stand out pretty clearly at NPC level even in poorer teams

You say all that, but what has Lio-Willie done more than Sotutu to warrant selection?
-
Surely at this point we aren't surprised he picks a Crusader lmao.
-
Cantablacks v2.
Hard to be interested in a provincial team pretending to be the All Blacks.
-
well well, there you go.
i didn't even need to read the stats to know Lio-Willie is 187cm, i just made an educated guess.
You know the absolute best part about all of this? We are using forwards to pass as much as run to get DMac in to those wide channels. Which NZ forward has the best passing game?
So is it that Hoskins is over-qualified? -
@Canes4life honestly cant say ive watched too many Otago games this year, was more a reflection on Sotutu
-
Isn't Lio-Willie more capable of playing multiple positions where Sotutu is more of a specialist hence why he wasn't picked? And given we have 2 eights already it makes sense to have some who can cover 6 & 7
-

the problem with that theory is our backup #8 is now also out starting 6. So someone out of Savea and Sititi needs to play 5 weeks in a row if one has to play 8 v Japan.
Unless of course Sititi is heading for the bench once fucking Blackadder is out of sickbay.
Either way that's fucking stupid and these dumb fluffybunnies are off their heads.
-
@mariner4life yeah, its a real catch with this versatility thing, someone picks up a niggle and it actually effects two positions

Nah, that's just not true. Not his best game in a well-beaten team but still had the most carries from either side. If you think most other AB or AB XV players have been stand-outs then you haven't been watching the NPC.
-
Sotutu was excellent in the lineout in the quarter final
-
As a Blues fan who would love to see Sotutu in the AB's No 8 jersey I do think Lio-Willie is a top player who showed good form in Super Rugby. For me he's the best loose forward in the Crusaders - better than Blackadder. He has a high workrate like Blackadder, lower error rate, and higher impact rate.
Sotutu is a better lineout and mauler than both Blackadder and Lio-Willie.
-
@brodean said in All Blacks EOYT:

agree
however the Crusaders were dogshit this year. Hoskins was the best loose forward in the comp.
Unless there has been a specific conversation behind the scenes that we simply don't know about, this is about the biggest indication that they in no way rate Sotutu and he is not even remotely on their agenda.
Which is dog shit selecting, and as far as i am concerned an enormous black mark against this group.
Had the loosies killed it this year i would shut my trap, but...
