Interesting watch, and as Nepia said the change in the thread over the course of the game was pretty funny.
Lomax was good again. De Groot short of a run. Williams good and Tosi looks promising.
Taylor was good-ish, but not as good as against SA - still active, but not as accurate. Needs a rest, and Aumua needs a start to build confidence. Do we know how far off Samisoni is?
Vaai good again. Scott Barrett I dunno. He almost reminds me of a quality cricketer who is named captain then goes into his shell and can't buy a run anymore. Trying for too much control and not enough aggression? Darry isn't an impact player.
The fucken loosies. Sam Cane these days is basically an extra tight forward. He is always going to look terrible in an open game cause he's very slow. So where is the horses for courses selection? Terrible miss to concede the try, especially for a guy who genuinely is a great tackler. Some of the points raised re trying to play at pace for 80 minutes make sense, until you think about picking Sam Cane at openside and asking him to play 80. I think by now the irony of criticising another AB loose forward of being busy but ineffective while Savea is a fixture in the side should be dawning on a few. He's trying hard, but he's not achieving much and he's fucking up a fair bit: world player of the year comprehensively outplayed by Harry Wilson who was excellent. Sititi, you have to love the young man's effort and good to see them using him heavily in the lineout as he has very good hands, if not the tallest bloke. Jacobson is not an impact player.
Ratima - good as expected. Give the young blokes a run. TJ a great kick, but come on, that shit just happens every so often - for example it wasn't as good a kick as Fraser McReight's but I doubt he's going to be tasked with clearances going forward.
McKenzie - didn't look right (crook all week wasn't he?). Some good stuff, some mediocre. I'm not as harsh on the 3 passes as others, because passing involves the catching player too, and you have two good examples there. He throws a forward pass which is in exactly the right place for the supporting Will Jordan - if he throws that pass backwards, it is behind Jordan. Conversely he throws a pass behind Reece - if he throws that pass to Reece, it's probably forward. A bugbear of mine for several years now is our outside backs being too flat - probably an artifact of our dud 10s being not that good at passing and looking for cross-kicks instead.
Jordie some good some mediocre. Rieko some very good some very mediocre. ALB not his best.
Clarke was really, really good. Then really, really dumb. Reece still can't chase a kick effectively, but does some good things. I think it might be time for a look at Narawa. Tavatavanawai I think is the wrong path - he's just another Reece to me.
Jordan is a better option than BB at fullback. -

I was going to do some reffing in HKG and all they wanted was my knowledge of the laws, but obviously that was just a start. What happens as they progress to the big gigs?
Obviously, no one dies like they do if I fuck up professionally, but we get training to help us get it right. Do rugby officials? I'm not just talking about "meetings" either.
At the top level that happens e.g. training simulations, workshops, meetings etc. They do a fair bit - Angus Gardner did a pod with The Roar which talks about the processes - Apple version here but google it if you prefer another platform:

Here in Sydney park footy, you get more assessment as you progress, in terms of a Referee Coach doing your notes from the sideline - this goes into your grading and it gets more and more finite as you move up ranks. If you want to do First Grade you need to be considered good enough for First Grade, then as you go up Divisions you need to get better.
At my level the checklist is "has heartbeat, can jog a bit" because they're crying out for refs. I'm 48 and would be at the bottom end of the average age for refs in our competition. The best of the young guys and girls go straight to Premier Rugby.

For a place where we get regular sauce on team naming that is often accurate, we have been fed absolutely nothing on this.

Taukei'aho was in excellent form at the end of the Super season, he was peaking perfectly.

That's just not true...
Taylor and Vaa'i are definitely in better form.
Lomax, Darry, Sititi, Ratima, McKenzie, Ioane are all playing as well, if not better than they did during Super.
De Groot, Finau, Perenara, Jordie Barrett are pretty much on par.
A number of others have had injuries during either Super or the international season so it's hard to get a clear answer one way or another. Others haven't had a huge number of starting opportunities.

Have only managed to read thread till halftime point.
A few observations and apologies if others have already made same points.
ABs very good in first half and ought to have been at least a further five up at HT given TMO 'missed' critical angle on Jordie try.
Wobblies not good but with Ratima clearing well AB backs very sharp.
Second actually went all right to about 60. At least two butchered tries and Ratima no try.
TJS really slowed down clearances and box kick charged down badly at 63:10, but made at least two try saving tackles.
The sequence of events for ALB yellow was Williams no arms tackle (T not SB), Vaa'i shoulder crocked leaving LSL to pour through gap, then AB fatty slows ball close to line with ALB ending up being whipping boy, after not rolling, for three penalties in quick succession. Personally I think a warning ought first to have been issued.
With Cane and Vaa'i off our hitting power was noticeably less and Oz started to make dents down the middle which enabled them to build momentum. Jordie's absence seemed to allow Oz midfield more change.
Down to 14 (and then 13) we didn't hold possession to run clock down. Well we did for about two or three phases, but that hardly counts!
In last 12 minutes or so ABs made some good ground spreading ball wide, but all negated by running away from fattie support. I'd have liked five minutes of carry, clean, carry, clean. Gleeson was a nuisance when he came on.
Caleb Clarke was stupid, all the more so when under the absurd current protocols he can get yellow. Compare Willie Le Roux, whose yellow was probably try saving and thus a great decision.
By 70 Lomax was gassed and Scooter also slow. His bad hand still clearly hampering him.
Still we were holding. Great defence at 76. Sititi a pearl of a goal line turnover. Relieving penalty. Darry takes lineout cleanly but Aumua indecisive and lets himself get caught in maul instead of breaking away. Was TJS keeping him informed? And seemed RD didn't even join maul. WHY NOT? Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot!!!
Wobblies run the obvious play from resulting scrum. AB backs don't rush and the rest was history once Mustard 15m out.
Had Vaa'i not been injured, the right play was to bring Darry on for Scooter. We need to look at how Boks use Kolisi. And Tosi on by 65.
Relying on the decision making of the TJS/RD combo is not good for the blood pressure at the end of close games!
