I have a bizarre feeling we are going to beat them twice.
We are due some luck on the card front. Reckon 1 or 2 of their okes get "sent".
Allbacks by 15+
I just can't see us winning both. But I can definitely see them dropping their guard for one, most likely the second when they've already tied up the RC.
That’s my tip but would be happier with jet’s prediction

If we do happen to have a good first half cant see the rationale to bring the subs on at a set time.
Keep the starting lineup on as necessary and see how gets on. -

Is that you murray?

@BerniesCorner I don't like predetermined subs either. Especially if affects our momentum like last Saturday

let's hope Taimati Williams starts again.

@pakman shit I just realised Ratima and Finau have the same initials as their future replacements.
And I thought everyone was being replaced by 'AI' these days. Maybe the selectors are showing they are boomers and missed the trend at 6...

I don’t think last weekend was predetermined. In fact far from it. That was more a case of “we are up by plenty, clear the bench”.
Doubt that will happen this weekend.
The Boks have a clear strategy when it comes to subbing their front row forwards.

Pakman team, assuming EDG fit, but Paddy not:
EDG/CT/TL/SB/TV/SC/SF/RD/TJS(!)/DMac/CC/JB/RI/WJ/BB
Bench: TW/AA/FN/SD/DP/CR/ALB/MT
6/2 bench I reckon. Don’t need an outside back replacement for this test with Jordie and Ioane in the team.

I wonder when the last time you could get odds like that on NZ?
Maybe Ellis Park a couple of years ago?
Pretty sure the answer is never. Certainly not $2.90. Stand by.

Historical odds for that 2022 Ellis Park test
-
So now we have Razor taking us to new lows in the betting world too.

@pakman said in Springboks vs All Blacks I:
First half will be massive. Aim being to burn off Bok starting fatties by halftime.
Stand by for 'innovative' Rassie time wasting...
Not cheating though. Yuck.

Based on actual recent performances then SA should go 2-0
I must be imagining that they lost to Ireland then. At home.
They will be a challenge, for sure, but their current record isn't actually that much better than ours.
-
The last time you could get odds like that was the last test in SA before the introduction of neutral refs!

What we can field is not too far from what we fielded in the RWC final; lock and halfback are the major downgrades - otherwise, we can challenge them.
Hopefully, we've plenty of experience in tipping them over at home.

@ACT-Crusader Jack and Maling at lock?
What is sad about that test is that Mils scored one of the best tries of his career. But nightmares of the likes of DWB, Joubert, JdV running through and around the ABs like we were stuck in quicksand whilst 60,000+ Bok supporters were screaming the house down.

Lienert-BrownDarry and Scooter are both LH locks, and against starting Bok scrum Vaa’i who is good both sides makes more sense.

@pakman TBH I'd have thought Scott would be our best tighthead lock now and I'm pairing Darry with him for his lineout work.
However, I'm not too bothered if they go Vaa'i/Barrett.
Main purpose of my post is to show we can field something not too far short of what we fielded in October. (Razor might e.g. prefer Paps over Cane).

No no no, you’ve got it completely wrong. They are the Boks. They have 150kg front rowers that are immovable but fleet footed. Their locks are 7 foot tall, have 40 inch verticals meaning they never lose a lineout. And check out their loose forwards, there’s only 3 of them but you’d swear they had about 12 hard shoulders between them.
Flyhalf and fullback that kick 60 metres on the fly, wingers that just toy with their opposition with their pace. A midfield that are the size of loose forwards but run sub 11 second hundreds.
What hope do the little ol ABs have? Even the loyals have given up with comments after every test match this year like - “nothing that would trouble the Boks”, “they wouldn’t be scared”, “where’s aura?”, “they will trounce us”.
Just hand them the silverware now and we can all have a good nights rest on Sunday morning week.

I prefer Ofa to face Frans (if EDG, who handles Frans well, not available).
When things free up in second I like the greater mobility of Paps and Williams.

@Chris-B said in Springboks vs All Blacks I:
@pakman For some reason, I've assumed EDG isn't available. But, if he is - yeah - start him and Williams off the bench.
Even closer to last October.
Closest to Shannon Frizell is Sami Finau!

@pakman Size-wise - but, I think they'll pick Blackadder and I agree with that.
I think EB is currently a better player.
EB is busier, but against Boks big bodies are required, so for me EB plays 7 or not at all.
-
On same theory quite attracted to Vaa’i moving to 6 when Darry comes on.

I'm less in the EB plays 7 camp.
I think he's a better 6 and I'd pick Sam and Dalton at 7 ahead of him.
For now, I'd pick him at 6 - but, I'd like to pick a taller 6 - either a grown Finau or Frizell.
I think Ethan is a superb bench loosie - but, his motor also lends itself to playing 80 minutes at 6 although he's a bit small.
-
It wouldn’t surprise me if they went with Finau on a horses for courses basis

I see him as an excellent bench prospect. But his engine is his greatest strength and, as you note, lends itself to entire 80.
With RD playing 80 that doesn’t really work.
If Hoskins was playing 60, EB playing 80 would open up scope for a big impact loosie on bench.

That was clearly Plan A - vs England.
It didn't work that well, so I'd be surprised if they go back to it for SA 1 - but, I think it's eventually the way of the future - though, maybe Frizell comes back first.

The first two years of Razor's tenure will be hard. Fortunately, young guns are lurking : Holland, Haig, Stodart, Delany, Lakai. I see them as potential All Blacks as they are playing in positions where the cupboard is currently rather bare. I have great expectations for Johnny Lee for the 7 jersey but not before 2026, IMO.
