Hurricanes vs Rebels

What with Godfrey & Sinkonson resembling Beauds & Barracuda, as well as Shields and Perenara out there tearing it up, that felt like a bit of a rewind.
Speaking of Shields, great to see him passing on his learnings to youngsters - Sangster is a bit of a toaster hands eh?
Top games from Perenara and Kirifi.
Great to see Jordie back in good form too.
Where was this Punivai for the landers? By the way @Canes4life his grandad lives in EB and used to be pres of the rugby club.
Rayasi disappointing eh, how does someone so big, break so little tackles? That trying to be the tough guy with late hits and shoulder charges after he'd turned it over for the umpteenth time was uuuuugly.
Lastly - why would parents name their sons to sound like a brand of soap? Carter & Mason. FFS

@Bones haha you nailed it with Sinkinson, he really does look like a Buckman, hard working and he even has the same haircut.
I knew Punivai was born in the Hutt but didn't realise his Grandad used to be the Pres of Eastbourne RFC, that's bloody cool. He carried strong tonight, hopefully he gets a few more opportunities.
What's with Rayasi aye? He just never learns, always runs far too high into contact and never protects the ball. Definitely don't think he should be in the Canes top 23, I couldn't trust the guy to help close out a knock out game, far too unpredictable.
Hopefully Godfrey gets more mins, he looks class but just needs more mins off the bench. Maybe he takes Rayasi's spot?

@Canes4life just got back to motel, and thought I would post a couple of thoughts. Geez the Canes looked good. You would of thought this line up had played together all year. I will say it is best game I have seen from. Morgan, was one of best on the field. There were plenty of Canes looked the part. The Rebels biggest game plan seemed to be slow the game down as much as possible. Very happy, well worth the trip.

I didn't either until I caught up with him down the club - he's there 3 times a week mate, head in for a beer and see if you can pick him.

Random thoughts with 7 to go ...
-
Canes eased off in 2nd half. Should have hit 80.
-
Tupou is ok huh. Shame he elected for Aus. Would have been a superstar if he stayed on the good side of the Tassie.
-
Godfry has a future
-
TJP might still have a future
-
O'reilly goes ok. Was he the dude with behaviour issues?
-
Canes locks too small to have much of a future
-
Lomax gunna be AB cornerstone next few years. Tupou good, Lomax better.
All for now.

Yeah, he maybe should have moved to the shield snorters.

I'd like to see Delaney move to 6 and be a bit more abrasive.

Well I am stunned that anyone is talking up Tupou, he spent most of time on field, either walking in midfield, or on odd time he gpt to ruck he never drives in from back. he looked unfit, and uninterested for about 30 of the 40 minnutes he was on field.

Anyway at home now and after being at game, thought the Canes were pretty good. The first time they got the ball ,(after about 2 minutes) they just hit top speed, and I countes roughly at leat 15 immediate really fast rucks (I reckon under 3 seconds) and the Rebels were absolutely f*** from there, were grasping at air, and speed of some of Canes passing was a thing of beauty. Was hard to imagine that basically first run together for backline, they were good. Rebels answer after halftime was to slow the game down. Tupou came on lasted 3 minutes and then was on ground for about 3, and from then on the Boks would of been proud of time wastings etc it seemed, was noticeable the Canes sped it up with taps etc at every chance.
On the players forwards were all bloody good, and backs being new really pleased me, Morgan at 10 had best game I have seen from him, he actually seemed to run the game, and was reason Canes won kicking game, so that pleased me. Punuvai, Snkinson etc were good, and young Godfrey did some bloody good stuff, TJ and JB were just TJ and JB so good but I expect that. Canes are in very good spot with seemingly good depth across mort of field I think, so was pleasing to see as a Canes' man!
I will add I can say hand on heart, I doubt whether I would of preferred to have any of Rebels' players than any Canes last night. -

As I say, he'd have veen a superstar if he'd stayed in the NZ system and made to work. Guy can scrum and run. I'd be picking him.
