ALB outplayed procter last week . let’s see what happens this week against Ioane

Proctor also outplayed Ioane and ALB when the sides met earlier in the year so horses for courses.

Better to build depth and have all these guys pushing each other than having utilities that can cover multiple positions so to speak.

Ioane will start as the preferred midfield option but if he lasts there until the next World Cup will remain to be seen.

when u are a uncapped player and you are meeting 60+ test players in a knockout games it pays to outplay them if you want to advance your case

As much as Drummond regularly outplayed Smith at super level.

You seem to have missed the *and test level.

Ikitau is a good player but his form is nowhere near what it was 2-3 years ago.

Just as well the squad is named on Monday - we've all drained as much out of these topics as we can I think haha

Proctor still played well, it’s not his fault Perenara, Cameron and Jordie shat the bed inside him last week. Proctor’s been the best centre in NZ this year, showed consistent form all year and was named the Canes player of the year. He was better than both Ioane and ALB overall this year and his combination with Jordie can’t be ignored.

ALB and Ioane have had plenty of chances in Black and both contributed to a poor ABs period so it’s not exactly like these guys are Nonu and Smith / untouchable. Proctor will push his claim. The Canes breed AB centres so he’ll be fine.

apparently it doesn't make a difference, you need to be an AB to prove you deserve to be an AB

No wonder the ABs have gone nowhere in recent years.

Reckon if Smith played for Australia and Drummond played ABs he would have "outplayed" him there too.

But yeah I'm not as committed to this stoush as I'm making out.

@ARHS Hmmm. I thought I posted to the effect that Procter and Rieko are the best two 13s currently and must be picked there ahead of AJ Lam, and that I would like to see Procter tried in combo with Jordie against England to keep the pressure on Rieko, who may or may not have been cruising through chunks of super season. But alas when a few words are quoted, the experts see it as outlandish drivel.. . Lol, who would want to be a journo or interviewee these days.

Tamaiti Williams is a probable inclusion : he has not played a lot of rugby this year but he did very well during the RWC as an impact player from the bench. He is a powerful scrummager when on the LH side and has one of the highest ceilings among the NZ props. Moreover, he is a Cantabrian. My prediction for the props :
De Groot, Tu'ungafasi, Williams, Lomax, Newell. As OfaT and Williams can cover TH, I don't see the need of selecting six props.

sort of adding to my point above, if the AB game style is dependent on a big munter to run straight from 12, who is the 2nd best player in NZ to do that? If it is AJ Lam, then pick him. Is he a better player than, say, ALB? no, but is he the best fit for the game style the coaches want? if the answer is yes, then that's how you select.

The point I made earlier. In fact, most of the 12/3 hybrids are about the same size. Heem is bigger and taller, but at 35 isn’t a realistic prospect.

there really isn't the need for "utilities" in the back line. Nearly everyone can play in more than one position. The only value BBarrett brings is he covers 10 and 15. ALB covers both midfields. You can stick anyone on a wing

Picking a guy because he's put a 15 and a 12 jersey on before is flawed thinking.

If they pick Harry Plummer, he can also cover midfield at 12
