Can anyone honestly see Cane making it next year ? He’s been a very good All Black. Played an absolute blinder against Ireland but ( harshly or not ) shat the bed in the massive moment that counted.
I think he’s done and will get jettisoned Gary Whetton style.

@MN5 he's going to struggle to make the team I suspect.
An absolute warrior, but limited. Game of his career in the QF, adn looked good in teh final until the card. Love him, but I think he unbalances the trio (like Ardie, who's arguably more unique by some margin)

@Canes4life No, that's a reason that he's a good bloke - but has zero to do with whether he's a good captain.

@Stag that we dont have, and despite his limitations, Ioane is still developing (not ideal I know) but I think persevering and building a backline around him and Jordie is important.

Sam Cane has been off the pace for a while now with one exception, the Ireland game. I have never seen an AB No. 7 so ineffective as during some games in the 2022 season. And part of the ABs loose trio problems in the Foster era was playing multiple 7s at the same time.

@game_film Cane is signed until 2025. I've no idea if he has a sabbatical option though.
I guess we'll see next year how many of the forwards were Ryan picks.

Cane still has a chance but less of a chance under Robertson, but he might want time away from NZ, rest the body and the mind. Still in contention for AB level, and there aren't many contenders (did someone say Harmon? Boshier? I think I prefer the older one).
6: I'll be surprised if Robertson does not choose a Crusader. -
@reprobate he's proven himself as a captain IMO. Just look at his performance when Cane was red carded yesterday, he's been brilliant at picking up the pieces when Cane has been absent. (which has been quite a lot might I add).

i wonder why people think roberson will pick a team that they will approve of. for example he may think cane is the best person to lead the team next year as a lot of experence has gone and needs a leader that has the experence to bring the new players in

Yeah, we have no idea what team he will pick outside of the Crusaders bubble he's been in. He probably hasn't analysed a lot of the non Crusaders players from a selectorial point of view.

I'm actually quite excited about next year.
I think a Roigard/Dmac combination has a lot of excitement and promise to it. It allows the AB's to change their game plan quite considerably with a much more running halfback and a much closer to the gain-line first-5.
I hope we select some outside backs with an emphasis on tactical kicking so we can play the game in the right area's of the field. SS is an obvious choice but my goodness he needs to improve his defense.
There's the opportunity to rebalance the loose forward trio but what this looks like I have no idea, if we want to return to a genuine fetcher at 7 no-one in the current AB team really is.
Super rugby will be very interesting with new guys putting their hand up to fill the gaps.
Really need a new lock to come through to partner Scooter, the loose forwards will be interesting, need to build depth at HB, 1st 5 and in the centers.
I'm quietly optimistic, I just hope we can go in a new direction and play some exciting rugby - with all 15 players staying on the field...
