RWC Final: All Blacks v Springboks
-
@Hooroo so we have become just another one of those teams that don’t care about results between world cups? Don’t thinks so, that’s never been the All Blacks. Win or lose the World Cup that doesn’t change the results over the past 4 years and Foster will still have one one of the worst records as coach of the AB’s. Credit where credits due if Fozz wins the WC, but the AB’s have always been about winning, wether at the World Cup or not, and that aura has been severely diminished under Foster.

@mariner4life Yeah - the match stats at ESPN report that.
41 kicks from England 29 from Boks = 70
Total passes England 78 Boks 67 = 145 (82 were by the halfbacks) - 63 by people not halfbacks - probably lots from the base of rucks!
I think half of those England passes came in the final 3 minutes when they were actually forced to hold onto the ball!

seeing so many people mention there is even a chance this will be considered one of the best RWC make me realise how disconnected ive become
I was in the UK in 2007 and NZ for all the others, i kind of felt this one was....meh...but realise that might largely because im in Aus...where almost no one cares, even around the rugby club, group chat gets some traffic but thats it
anyway, no changes, have to back the guys that have gone through the knockout games i think, as much as i know that means sticking with christie, the team is clicking more than ive seen in 4-5 years so have to go with it

It’s only Monday,

I'm feeling pretty relaxed, before the tourney was prepared for the fact we'd be home by now. In hindsight, we gave the Boks nothing in that Twickenham game, any new tactics we plan to use will be news to them

I’m trying to tell myself that we’ve overachieved against expectations already and should be happy with 2nd.
But fuck that, it’s a RWC Final, and it’s the Boks, we can’t let them get to 4 ahead of us, this means everything!!!
How good is sport eh?
i want to feel that way....but i cant stand the thought of SA winning, first to 4th win, all the stuff about leaving super rugby etc...i could have lived with almost anyone else as "someone new" etc....we need to win
-
nah fuck coming second , lets win

On the rivalry thing ,
The ABs v Boks is unique imo , due to the respect,
Most rivalries involve hatred
Amen kiwi, a quite unique rivalry I think.

On the question of best WC ever, I another who has found it a little flat?
I think QFs weekend probably close to best weekend of rugby I can rember, and obviously stoked with how well ABs are going.
I do find I have struggled most of WC to find it better then the NPC, for me anyway. -
I'd be OK (well less aggrieved) losing the final to France, but will be mega pissed off if we lose to SA. Normally I have great respect for the old foe, but I can't stand the current version. What really fůcks me off is the visible distain their medics and runners show to the officials. It's an ugly blight on the game.

Good enough for me as I’m not sensitive about Mickey Mouse results of a tired competition.

I'll be naming my team on Tuesday at 1pm NZT. I would normally name it today but there's an additional day. Exciting times

It has been a great RWC. 4 great quarter finals with 2 all time great games. A close semi final and leading to the great RWC final we have wanted for 28 years.
Certainly better than most.

@stodders Porter was legitimately penalised for scrumming illegally, a prop destroying his opposition player does not need to scrum illegally.
If Jackman truly believes Lomax was turning Porter in then he's just confirming Porter was getting outplayed by Lomax.
The Irish pundits have been embarrassing when it comes to the scrums in that match.

Unless they are real die hard and the sort of fan that bleeds rugby and will wake up at any hour to watch, then you’re not going to hear much about the RWC in OZ. The weekend warrior that likes to play doesn’t necessarily fit that description.
I know plenty of players and fans where this RWC is a bit of an afterthought. Combination of Wallabies not doing well, the time the games are on, but I think the bigger factor being they are just more committed to domestic sporting codes.
Other than the cricket team and the odd bit of football (when the latter play at home), I’ve seen the general interest in international sport wane in terms of chatter and interest in recent years.

@Kiwiwomble just a correction there bud. we didn't leave Super Rugby.. you guys threw us out so we had to make do with NH and we are okay with that now.
We still miss playing SR but it is what it is.
I'm hoping for an epic game and I'm hoping we have enough energy left ... I am guessing that our coaches will play a few fresh legs this weekend. Can see a few surprises this time around.
Best wishes

I've been struck by how low-key it's been in the UK too. The 6N's seemed to generate more excitement this year. Whether that's because England, Wales etc, were written off by everyone I don't know.
