If you’re chasing the game, then it’s Smith- Roigard
It's Smith and Roigard either way for me. I obviously don't see what people see in Christie that puts him in the same conversation as Roigard, it's baffling.
Fozzie logic. Ye olde stopped clock.
-
@Canes4life Exactly. 100%
He's played in the majority of tests this year, has bedded down seamlessly and offers way more options.
-
It makes no sense to go cold on Roigard based on one start vs Uruguay where he came right anyway.
Christie has often struggled when starting (and from the bench mind you).
If it indeed is Christie you get the sense Fozzie was looking for a reason not to select Roigard.

Why?
Same same
If you’re winning, continue the game plan
-
@MiketheSnow he's not the same as Smith though. He's the one that is more like Murray - flimsy wide pass, tends to fuck around, run off the ruck and throw a short pass.
-
Christie has gone backwards since last year when he was solid coming on to replace Smith. Been a bit crap since his forgettable Scotland start, though he had some good moments against the Boks this RC.
Roigard's the much better option.

Christie is nothing like Smith. I'd rather Smith play 80.

There is far les risk in picking Roigard than there is in picking Christie.
There is more risk in picking Roigard, but that's more than balanced out by the bigger upside in having Roigard on the bench.
Care to explain what is the risk of picking Roigard over Christie and why it would be greater by dint of that selection?
If it's a "young rookie being overawed and shitting bed risk", what evidence do you have that Roigard is more likely to shit the bed than Christie based upon their own individual merits (as opposed to some general notion of experience handling pressure better)?

@stodders said in RWC QF: All Blacks v Ireland:
Roigard is a similar kind of player to Conor Murray. Ireland have 2 different style 9s in their 23. If NZ chose Christie, it suggests the ABs have one way of playing. What happens if it doesn't work? Christie isn't exactly going to snipe round the fringe.
More importantly, Christie's execution simply isn't going to be anywhere near Nuggie's. This is important because that style is built entirely around Nuggie's once-in-a-lifetime quality passing game. Take that away, and that particular way of playing just doesn't work. Without Nuggie, therefore, you would be better off and more effective changing your pattern of play entirely.

Yes, and if we are going to judge our reserve halfbacks by their hiccups during this tournament, let us not forget Christie's train wreck against France in the opening match.

If I give Christie a 5/10 in a tight, must-win Test (probably really generous based on recent form), what rating would you give Roigard? The answer is you can't because he hasn't. That's an unknown. Which is a risk.
Does Roigard's skill-set, recent experience & performances merit taking that risk? Absolutely, and that's why I think he should be picked.

We (The Fern) think that
Obviously Foster doesn't
Foster is conservative
He obviously feels Christie is less of a risk

It's really not.
-
Conversely if we lose the tough tests maybe that is exactly why we should consider the unptedictable but not fully tested players? And what has Foster got to lose?
-
@nostrildamus he's already had to concede on the props and the midfield. He won't be proven wrong on hooker and halfback too.

I hope they have the bed made up at Keith Murdoch's old place

@Derm-McCrum "everyone take two bags" obviously doesn't fit in Fozzie logic

This is a perfectly random nostrildamus post, well done sir.
