RWC QF: All Blacks v Ireland

There's a risk in picking Roigard and a risk in not picking Roigard. I think it will be a fine line decision.

With Christie and ALB the bench looks shit again.
Who, other than ALB, to cover midfield?

Stop it. There is far les risk in picking Roigard than there is in picking Christie. Only ten morons on Facebook and Foster would pick Christie (and maybe anyone needing to pretend Roigard is a risk because they can't depart the Fozzie defence).

As opposed to Christie's wonderful decision making?
Nothing wrong with Christie's decision-making. It's just that it's a bit slow....
-
@Victor-Meldrew against one of the least ponderous defences in world rugby. Good combination

There is more risk in picking Roigard, but that's more than balanced out by the bigger upside in having Roigard on the bench.
-
Roigard is a similar kind of player to Conor Murray. Ireland have 2 different style 9s in their 23. If NZ chose Christie, it suggests the ABs have one way of playing. What happens if it doesn't work? Christie isn't exactly going to snipe round the fringe.

There isn't more risk, you're making it up. What's the risk?

In Christies case maybe sunburn even at this time of year ?

I was all for Roiguard being the right back up choice, but some of his early decision making in the last game was a bit concerning
From memory, he did seem to run when the pass was probably the better option a few times I thought
But I liked the way he handled his little period of yips - thought that showed a lot of maturity and composure. And I'd prefer his speed of decision making over Christie any day.

It’s been a looooong week

Exactly. Roigard offers more overall than Christie in my book. He may not have come on in a tight game but he's worth that risk.
-
Perhaps there’s a different way of looking at this (the Foster way)
Foster obviously believes he can select the best 23 to beat Ireland
The crux of this conundrum is will NZ be defending a lead or chasing the game?
If you’re defending a lead then it’s Smith - Christie
If you’re chasing the game, then it’s Smith- Roigard

@Victor-Meldrew Christie's performance stats this year don't even come close to Roigard's. Yes Roigard had a few blips in his last outing but that's all character building. He's been a far more consistent player all year and he has shown that his ceiling is, and will continue to be far higher that Christie's.
