Canes vs Chiefs
-

just to go off on a complete tangent I'd love to see Ardie have a run in the boot... he's got all the skills

if there's one guy that needs a bit of pressure on him it's Reado.. he's struggled to recapture his form of a few years back and we're still lacking a quality backup 8

Then we could have Cane and Ardie on the paddock at the same time and we'd all be happy - until we found the next irrelevant thing to be unhappy about..
-

How can you think my statement of them dueling it out for an All Black spot is a Hyperbole?? Cane is the incumbent and he is in the leadership group, but he doesn't own the jersey. To think he did would be pure stupidity. Isn't that what makes the All Blacks so great?? Players pushing the incumbents for positions is what creates competition and forces both players to perform at their peak with fear of losing their spot to the player next in line.

Same goes for a player like Keiran Read. I don't think hes played anywhere near his best in the last year, however I guess he hasn't needed to as there hasn't really been a strong enough candidate to push him to his playing limit.

I actually take back my comment on the greatest Hurricane but I would say he has a great chance of being our best forward ever. Cant go past Cully as being our greatest player, that guy was a machine.

Probably because these bits don't work together. You were talking it up as a 1 vs 1 fight for the spot when in reality, Cane doesn't have to prove shit, that spot's already his. Ardie's the one who has to win it off him.

Personally, I think Ardie would be better off trying to get on the bench.

you'd think as a 20yr old, the shot at an Olympic Gold medal will be a huge draw card for him, especially knowing he is unlikely first pick for the ABs 7 jersey, I honestly don't think this will impact his AB career.

He's goooone mate.

Canes will just have to find a way to survive without him.
-

Luatua and Dixon putting their hands up I reckon to try and get a run at no.8.

Read was huge for us against the Jags. Starting to regain some of the old magic
-

Cane is definitely the number one 7 for the ABs, but I personally think Ardie is the form forward in the competition. I think he's doing everything a top 7 is meant to do, but is adding some bonus bits on top of it. Like Dane Coles at hooker, he is doing some things not too familiar for his position, which I think could make it appear like he's a flash player that is tailor made just for Super Rugby, but I don't think that's the case. From what I've seen, there isn't anything obvious to me that suggests he can't be a decent Test player - he does everything required of his position, is a pretty good decision maker and is a low error player, despite his high involvement on attack.

When he first hit the scene, size and physicality was the biggest problem for him, but he's made huge strides in that area since then and actually seems to play bigger than he looks.
-

We saw on that 2013 EOYT against France, Ireland and England that we had some scratchy performances when the coaches went with Ben Smith at centre. I won't have an issue with whoever they go with - Fekitoa, Crotty, or possible newbies like Ngatai, etc but I anticipate we may be up for some more scratchy performances.

The midfield next year of A Savea and A Ioane will go well for quite a few years. -

I did wonder about that from what others had said, some comments here would have lead me to believe he was a Bill Cavubati of the loose forwards......
-

I got that but even in the video C4L posted, he wasn't 20 either. It was from last season, so he was 21.
-

This is TSF, I am not expected to check other peoples sources, I barely check mine!

I am in camp with those saying Read is playing well. During the last couple of games I have found myself thinking we may finally be seeing the old Read coming back.

Hang on though. You aren't comparing apples with apples. I wouldn't say that Ardie offers a lot more, he offers something different.

I have no doubt that the ABs will be looking for what he can offer them in their setup but at the moment what BSG says is correct. Cane is playing well enough for the selectors to not be jumping at other options. The investment they have in him as a player and leader is ready to be harvested.

Ardie as the bench player makes more sense.

That why this one match up will be worth matching the game for. It will show how Ardie stacks up against NZ's no 1 at present. As long as everything else is equal. My slight concern is the lock match up with maybe two 1st yr starters. But otherwise the Canes are OK. Strong in most position and I think the midfield will be OK
-

Based on your comments have you actually seen Ardie play?? He's far better than Vito. Ardie actually puts his head in dark places on a consistant basis, he doesn't pick and choose like Vito has done most of his career. -

Rather he stuck by his word and plays 7s. He's made a commitment.

If he's as good as you think he'll tour at the EOYT (along with both Ioanes).

BTW I AM lookibg forward to seeing him in black. As a number of posters have said he brings something different. -

Agree ACTC. 12-13 is our potential weak link.

Everywhere else we're pretty well covered. Unless we have two injuries in a position.
