Foster could have bought more time to develop depth by winning. He ran out of time last year after all those losses yet continued to change the team.
So it's Foster's fault he didn't develop depth because he lost a few, but it's also his fault as he changed a losing team. Thanks for clarifying that.

Either he played his top team too often because he needed wins, and didn't develop anyone else because of it
Or he hasn't played his top team enough and fucked up their cohesion
It actually is kinda both I think.
He didn't give opportunities last year because he needed wins - he played what he thought was the top team. That was a very conservatively selected side with older "proven" guys, not the best players available on form: he would have kept playing the older props if injury hadn't forced his hand. He did keep playing Taylor over Samisoni. The midfield he would have stuck with for longer if not for injury fixing it for him too. He developed fuck-all except where injury forced his hand. That non-development has hamstrung us this year.
This year still conservative: Christie unjustifiably in the top 23 on form but picked in the top team, hence slow on giving Roigard opportunities. Now not enough time to nail down combinations.
He should have benched Beauden long ago and given Jordan/Mckenzie opportunities, but now it would be very risky - even off the bench Mckenzie is only now getting a run.
He completely wasted the Dunners match by picking a wholesale B team - which neither plays the top team to develop cohesion or develops anyone else. It smacked of giving everyone a run like in primary school.
The WC games are spread out. The warm-up games and the RC too. Guys could legitimately play pretty much all of them, so the core of that A team should, because combinations matter. Change 2-3 guys per game, and use that plus the bench options to build potential combinations in injury scenarios etc. We should have seen an A team with Mckenzie at 10. An A team with Roigard at 9.Having said all that, it's Uruguay and it's not the worst selection - just a few more changes than I'd like and I would have preferred Savea, Ioane, S Barrett to have their rest earlier and play this one for momentum. I see no point in playing Jacobsen in this one when they clearly don't trust him in a big game - Ethan the Saviour should be starting if they're considering using him as bench cover. And Samisoni needs some rugby.

In fact, the Boks initially push straight with Bongi putting huge pressure on Irish hooker. As a result, Irish TH lock slips off Tardis and he twists left, at which point Ox bores in and finishes him off.
Wouldn't have happened with starting TH lock and fresh Tadhg.

Roigard was selected on form and made his debut in the third of those games in a key Test (Bledisloe opener) and will have played in the majority of AB games this year (5/9). He's starting tomorrow against Uruguay to give him experience with the preferred Test 10 leading up to the knock-out stage.
I think it's a bit ridiculous to say Foster has been slow to give Roigard opportunities.

Foster is clearly conservative, loyal to his players, and stubborn. Perhaps lenient to his players as well (would rather reward them with permanent places than make them compete for their spots). Not a problem when they're on top, and would help with player loyalty, but a problem when they are on the slide, stale, and predictable. Bridge, JB on the wing, and a fading BB at 15/10 when there were arguably better options there.. Perhaps we are lucky in a way that DH, Ennor, Cane, hooker and props were injured and he had to try new players. Seems to me players have to display great and long dips in form to be replaced or have their place threatened. It is what it is, we can only hope the required changes in players and whatever the new assistants have/will bring will be enough. And Foster has improved (arguably) Lomax and Bower (remember him?) And finally saw the light on his assistants, JB at 12, Roigard, DMac off bench (although maybe that was a long-term plan) etc.

wait, can you say that again
Foster could have bought the grace time to make changes and develop depth by winning. But instead, because he lost a few, he made changes to develop depth?
If he was a winning coach, didn't lose to Argentina, Ireland, France, SA, almost to Japan, Scotland etc, he would have been in a better position to make changes. He made changes anyways and continued to lose games, series, record firsts

No one listens to you. You wanted Foster to change the team in each an every subsequent test to find and develop 2-3 backups up to the QF after JB seemingly had cemented his position at 12 after one test.

Its 100% dead on balls accurate. 90% of NZ was calling for Roigard over FinChrist.

Yes, I agree.
Roigard is very inexperienced and he has been in the all Blsck environment for 3 months.
I think he has been managed pretty well so far.
His performances so far would suggest they have got it right in how they have introduced him to test rugby

Roigard has been brought in slowly as he gets used to ABs and test rugby. Let’s not forget that he only has about 25 super rugby caps.
