RWC Week 4: All Blacks v Italy

The ex-wallabies guys were going on about how the lack of competition for spots mad their super teams switch off
Are we seeing the same thing from the ABs? If you are an established guy you can have a fucking stinker and know you'll be in the team next week. Got a red card for a dumb as fuck act? no problem bro come right back.
Maybe some of it is our paper thin depth. For instance if Jordie plays shit this week we have literally nowhere to turn because the next two guys off the bench suck. Scott Barrett can't get dropped because our 4th lock sucks! The props have no one chasing them.
Ohh, for the glory days of 2004-2007.
Perhaps we should get rid of a SR side or two ourselves...
-
We're not alone in this though, there wouldn't be a team in the world with a like-for-like replacement in every spot. Every team is a couple of key injuries or form drops from falling down.
I guess though for us we don't look like a high performing outfit, so there is desire for change, but, at least externally, either nowhere to turn, or no willingness to turn
-
@mariner4life and thats on the coach...to know what to do if you have to bring in a different type of player in a position...rather than just dropping them when they dont play the same as the first choice
-
Just on this game, to re-direct the thread.
My very real hope is we have spent two weeks working out how to get the ball in Reiko Ioane's hands in dangerous areas. He is, by a fair way, our most dangerous attacking weapon, find a fucking way to get him the seed
-
@mariner4life and tbf I think this is a symptom of Fozzies career as coach.
He got off to a rocky start and has been behind the 8 ball ever since, always needing to play 'his best' players for fear of losing, and as such hasn't really given anyone the opportunity to step up behind the encumbant and press thier case (locks and half in particular)
Also, nut not seed

that is a good hope, but on history you'd have to be pretty optimistic for it to be a very real one.

Assuming a QF awaits, showing we can actually do the basics might be a good way to start. I would just like to see some direct forward play, legitimate attempts to play down in opposition territory first and foremost.
Jeez would love to see a big score based on the above to put some doubt in the Ireland faithful. This may sound contradictory to the above, but I don't believe so.
I am convinced we have the players just not convinced we will get the tactics right.

Nah, i question our execution as well
-
Why send for Blackadder and then not use him ffs

but if cane is actually fully fit...why not start...he's the captain and only been out for three games

agreed, even if the game plan was the "right one"...and im not sure it is....i dont think we're actually pulling off what we're trying to do

History probably tells us Blackadder is more likely to get injured.

As an off topic statement as long as we hold our discipline and play with passion we can compete with any of the sides. The one area I am not so sure about is the SA bomb squad scrum. That is some serious sh*t to deal with.
-
I would rather throw caution to the wind and roll the dice tbh.
That means involvement of Blackadder, Roigard, DMac and LF.
2019 was serious limp lettuce -
@BerniesCorner Credit to Hansen in 2019 he actually made some big selection calls. Just a shame he was the only guy in NZ who would have dropped Ben Smith.
-
I'm very happy Roigard was selected.
Very surprised they aren't testing out Blackadder here to see how he copes.
Very sad they still play the 10/15 Mounga-BB combo as it only seems to work 1 out 20 games or so.
I think it is a mostly good bench and I can see why they have ALB but I'd rather have Leicester. -

I don't think credit should be given for big stupid selection calls.

I have just twigged on Foster's genius, 3-4 years of incredibly predictable teams then once/if into the sudden death games: complete change in selections and tactics, brilliant! (Holds fingers in front of eyes).
How for so?
Hasn't he been criticised for not settling on a team?
And now he's picked a first XXIII he's predictable?
And that's somehow a complete change in selections? -
@mariner4life not mutually exclusive
