How delicious would it be after that performance for England to lose to both Japan and Samoa?

A much improved defensive shift by England, backed up by a George Ford masterclass in bossing a game. Mitchell made a difference for Ford IMO. Some pretty good individual performances but in truth I didn’t see too much that makes me very hopeful. I know we were a man down but I still can’t see any discernible attack. Was this a case of Ford and Lawes saying we’re fucked, so let’s play it pragmatic but give it a lash or do we have an actual game plan for going a man down in the first 6 minutes?

Still, a mighty effort but it’s only one game. Oh and the Argies were shit.

I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say Farrell has been Englands biggest problem.

    Ford was Wilkinson esque today.

Not many higher compliments for an England fly half.

Clever from England. Awful from Argentina. Feels like a Green Day: Wake me up when September Ends if this is our World Cup showcase

Superb displays from Ford Lawes and Earl though.

Finally saw the Curry incident...have to say I don't agree with the red... no mitigation despite the player jumping in to it.....mind boggling .. I hope that it is downgraded to YC after the fact...

Re the YC i thought it was fair enough - SA should be watching that decision closely as they often clean up the kicker in that manner with a charge down leap from miles back

If they don’t tire they win

    Ford is playing a blinder

That 50m drop goal was a thing of beauty.

And it cleared the bar easy. Was a great strike.

While some might bemoan it, if you’re an opposition and you know there’s a guy on the other team that is a threat any time they are in their half, that does change the mindset.

Well done England. Argentina were poor

Desperately boring game of football, but so smart from England.
Take all speed out of the game, take all points on offer. Text book way to play a man down. Defended really well and completely shut Argentina out of it.

Pumas were clueless. England were smart. Ford was brilliant

It doesn't help the ABs that they play a team as dumb as the Argies every year. Talk about lulled into a false sense of security.

England with a Ford-Tuilagi 10-12 axis are much better.

they beat us in Aus, and then here last year. How you ask? No idea

leaving Super has not been good for them

Stolen from Twitter - but it was my own tweet I stole from.

Everyone: You don't win World Cup games with drop goals any more.

George Ford: Hold my Jannie de Beer

I said in the France/ABs thread there weren't many replays in play. Not the case in this one.

Curry red card: well it's warranted under the framework. He had a player landing in front of him and should have paused - didn't lower himself at all. Could have taken half a moment to get lower and cut the guy in half. Didn't. That's that.

@Tim not the harshest RC of the past few years, of course it is the harshest so far, being the first, but unlikely the last one we will see at this RWC

    1 million %

It’s getting really fucking old that certain posters think that if Meg can’t say ‘razzle dazzle’ 10 times a match then the match is not worth watching

This was chess of the highest order, which will always frustrate those who can only play & appreciate draughts
