So we have picked all of our available locks and loosies, and 1 out of our 5 selected outside backs. Marvellous.
Just thinking that about locks and loosies.
-
@reprobate My guess is that the extra outside backs are about two very specific opponents (not the Boks).
One where the coaches think we’ll need as much pace as we can on the Wing, another one where they think we’ll need power.
Taking both Narawa and Clarke rather than a utility forward like Cullen Grace still looks like a mistake.

Reasonably close to our strongest line-up, considering who are and who aren't available, although I'd prefer Fainga'anuku in the 23 jersey.

Wonder if Taylor carrying an injury?
Was wondering the same thing.

Frizell's injury has really stuffed things up. I like Jacobson but I think too small against a big Bok pack. I think this is why they've gone with a 6-2 split on the bench. Have we ever gone this route before?
I would've preferred to see Vaa'i partner Whitelock and push Barrett out to 6 with a traditional split on the bench ie, Lord and Papali'i. This way you could've put DMac on the bench against a tiring Bok team.
-
@Kiwiwomble A bit weird that they are giving the start time in GMT when the UK is currently on BST.

I don't think they wanted to start all 3 of the only fit locks left standing 2 weeks before RWC opener vs France.

I don’t care if the game is on Friday, name the team on Thursday you eggs.
Looks to be first choice backline and close to first choice pack. Hopefully we see some fluency but keeping our powder dry.

Dry, but not bone dry?

Vaa'i to be used as a 6 during the match.
Hopefully Roigard cements his spot on the bench ahead of Christie.
Not necessarily. Would be ballsy move, though, for Vaa'i and Lord to replace Scooter and Big Sam in one go.

No Finau
The fuck was the point in taking him. Jesus.
The one thing, as observed way above, is that players for French game need to be prioritised. And so all four fit ones needed game time. The irony is that Frizell's injury probably lead to Lord playing instead of Finau.

Fozzie Logic.
You punished that!

Just because SA have been here longer and have had a run out, SA by 4-9

So what will the NZ side be? Something like?
Du Groot, Taylor, Lomax, S. Barrett, Whitelock, Jacobson, Cane (c), A. Savea, A.Smith, R. Mo’unga, Telea, J. Barrett, R. Ioane, W. Jordan, B. Barrett.
Sami T, Williams, Newell, Vaii, Papalii, Christie, Havili, Leicester F
I expect Finau at 6. Three of Lord/Vaa'i/Jacobson/Papali'i om bench. Leicester may not be needed.
Apart from Finau enigma, this was pretty close.
