@gt12 at least we are actually contesting the contestables now eh? For so long we were putting up those same short high kicks then barely even chasing them 🤦🏻‍♂️

Did you notice though, when we were being smothered and pushed back, we were just that little bit less able to contest as well as we did earlier?

That was the point where we should have put the contestable bombs away

First 5 minutes of WJ watch. Fucking scintillating. WJ of a couple of years ago would have muffed that and not linked with Smith..

Edit: boks stood around like they'd been hit by a stun gun though. Weird.

    @voodoo

Clarke isn’t bad in the air, but Jordan and Telea have better chase games. It’s not just selection, but some of it is just the players they put out there.

Clarke looked like a wasted selection yesterday to me, he starts or doesn’t play. There could be a space for Dmac in 22 and a midfielder at 23. I also wonder whether we should just load up and chose a 6/2 split.

@voodoo I've given you a slightly mixed answer.

I don't think Frizz is necessarily locked into the 6 jumper for the big games at RWC. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the preferred plan is still ScottB at 6. Shannon has given them another option to think about.

On DMac, I've never thought he's been much of a chance to supplant Richie this year, even though there's not that much to choose between them. He's possibly more of a chance to supplant Beaudy at fullback, but even then, I think not.

A bench of Christie/Roigard, DMac and ALB would cover most options though.

Minute....14/15? Jordan dropped a sitter again earlier, but ran a great little ditty for the Frizzel try.

Which gets better every replay by the way

The problem being though, we were going nowhere at a rate of knots, even going backwards. They had no idea what else to do. If only we had someone with a raking boot.

@Crazy-Horse Funny to think we have Roigard, DMac and Stevenson twiddling their thumbs.

My big worry is that we don’t have the depth of other contenders, especially in the pack and key positions like 9.

We really can’t afford to lose too many of our top players to injury, but of course, that is a lottery.

I actually think we could do with one or two getting injured so Fozzie is forced into giving certain players a chance.

    Stevenson, Jordan at 15. Roigard.

So after learning that we're not playing SRP rules - why the fuck was Smith giving Faf a free pass at scrum time? Looks like he never went past the props.

Outstanding game. Both teams playing to their strengths with the AB’s able to assert their game plan for longer periods of time. Momentum swung back to the Boks when the bomb squad came on but in the end AB’s were too good.

Frizell continues to impress all round at 6, lineout, tight work, defence, running game. He really has been outstanding and proving doubters like myself wrong. I’m happy to be wrong as long as he’s playing this well.

Welcome back Mr Jordan and they just have to find a spot for him whether 14 or 15. Great prob they have with so much talent in back 3.

The pack in general were excellent. Played tight, always connected, excellent body position in contact and ruck/maul. Couple of wobbly scrums but that’s to be expected against a superb scrummaging team like the Boks.

I think you are over egging it with 'always connected' because the middle period the abs were not in the slightest in sync. But it was a good effort at the end to keep the lead when I thought they would get smashed

Just because they weren’t dominant doesn’t mean they weren’t connected in defence etc. When momentum swing against you it’s hard to maintain cohesiveness but the AB’s did that.

@booboo I'm watching the game now wondering the same thing. I personally think he's been very good. Just the usual suspects I guess who are so used to criticizing the guy.

Hard to pick any faults out there tbh.

Yep it's like that once there is blood in the water. Gets petty and myopic. But I would 100% agree on his exits and clearing kicks in general. Have been poo forever.

Having just watched the game I'll happily admit I was wrong about Frizell. There was something Kainoesque about him last night.

BB and JB can kick a long way. We just never utilised them

Jordie had a huge punt down the middle in the first half. Was pleased as punch with that.

Christie’s first kick was terrible. But he redeemed himself by holding up their halfback in a tackle. Generally I think others are better but it seems with his work rate in general play he is now locked in.

Yep me too. Two games in a row he’s been excellent. I loved his footwork before contact which got him over gain line.

How about that drop kick from under their posts? 60M on the fly.

Agree. When we we lost momentum we should have kicked long. That time in the 2nd half when BB got the ball with time, then put up a bomb which wasn’t too bad, but no body was chasing so ended up being an easy turnover in our half when we needed to ease pressure.

I actually thought that bomb was put up under pressure - as in he took that option as he didn't have the space and time to do a long kick. (If it's the same one I'm thinking of).

Anyway, I will check when I do a rewatch.
