@Canes4life You can work out the NDC players from those images. Wallace and Coles were reported. Add in Allen, Bason and Newland.
There's also Tuputupu, Viljoen and Ropeti.

@Winger how can you call someone disappointing when he missed the whole season? He had a quiet NPC compared to 2022 but he wasnt exactly going to set the house on fire after being on the sidelines for such a long stint.
Hopefully this year he can kick on. He’s probably worked the hardest out of any player this off season, training twice over in Australia when not required by the Canes so is primed for a big year.
-
@Canes4life He was also impressive when he played for NZ A against the Japanese teams.

That depth is starting to look awfully shallow. Signing an Aussie from MLR for SR.
-
@antipodean depends if they think they can improve him? I guessing they looking for a beanpole to replace Dom Bird?
-
The Hurricanes pre-season match on Feb 16 at their training facility is free. Not sure how many people can get in but that's a nice move from the Canes.

Hurricanes have announced their captain for 2024.
Captain: Brad Shields
Vice captains: Jordie Barrett and Asafo Aumua.I'm glad Brad was given the captaincy over Du Plessis and TJ, I am surprised that Asafo is a vice-captain, maybe they've given him more responsibility to try and get the best out of him. Jordie as a VC is a no brainer.

I'm liking the vibe Chris Laidlaw brings to the Canes. Hopefully he can bring the best out of the side this year and isn't a major disappointment like Holland. Appointing Brad is the right move IMO, he's our best 6, he's a proven winner and he has the most respect among the group having lead the Canes before.
I like the move not to give Perenara / Kirifi vice captaincy duties because of the obvious fact that Roigard has already surpassed Perenara, and Lakai will likely do the same to Kirifi.

Asafo is a surprise. But good to see. Including the PI aspect. It will be interesting to see how he develops and performs in this role.
I was expecting the captain plus 2 vice captains set-up but with Kirifi as the other VC. TJ might be a bit disappointed but JB was the obvious choice especially with TJs injury issues. And Roigard as the likely starter.
Kirifi is maybe the big loser here. Whether it's a reflection on his personality (he seems a bit of lad still) or his playing ability not being rated that highly. Time will tell.

More reasoning behind the Aumua appt below. Laidlaw seems refreshing and willing to try new things to get the best out of his players. Something the mundane Holland wasn't able to. The Hurricane's season will be heavily influenced by the form of key players like Aumua, Lomax, Shields, Barrett, Roigard, Cameron, Proctor and Love. If they can perform and are supported well by that youthful but exciting bunch in behind them, it could be a sound year for the Canes.
@Winger Kirifi still seems a little hot headed to captain a Super side. He's had success with the Lions but we know provincial rugby is a big step down from Super these days. I also feel like Peter Lakai will get more opportunity this year at 7/8 so Kirifi is likely to be impacted by his rise.
