Hurricanes 2024

@SouthernMann 👍🏽👌🏽😊

@foobaNZ Whether Morgan and Cameron are the only signed 10s depends on where they see Godfrey's future. All signs are there that he'd make a good SR 10, but he doesn't get to play there much, neither for the Canes or Hawke's BaY. His serious injury early in the NPC season obviously didn't help.
It's difficult to know which 10s are available because contract durations are often not published. The only one I know about for certain that he is off-contract is Lincoln McClutchie.
You'd think getting to play with the likely AB 9 and 12 for the next WC cycle would be a pretty compelling reason to come to the Canes.
Yeah, but if the Canes don't show any interest, that won't matter much.
-
@Canes4life With Reihana apparently moving from the Chiefs to the Crusaders, Jacomb will probably be picked up by the Chiefs.
-
@Stargazer yeah you're probably right but I can only hold our hope.
If Cameron starts for the Canes in 2024 which I think he will, I hope Godfrey is 10/15 cover off the bench like he was a number of times this year.
Godfrey just needs to start playing 10 more at NPC to get time in the boot there. If not for HB, maybe he looks shifting elsewhere, especially if that's where he wants to play going forward.
-
@Stargazer I don't think the Chiefs will need another 1st 5 if Ioane is back. Three should be enough (with DMac and Trask).
Lucas Cashmore could be available. He was in the Blues WTG so maybe he is back there. McClutchie is the most experienced of the others that could be signed but the Canes haven't wanted him previously.
-
@Bovidae Ah yeah, I forgot about Ioane. I don't know why I keep thinking he's going overseas, because that hasn't been announced at all.
It's a mystery to me why the Canes never showed interest in McClutchie, but Holland is gone now, so that will hopefully change.

I'd like us to sign either McClutchie or Jacomb from Taranaki. I feel like Morgan might get the chop once his contract expires next year.
I watch them both in the final
Jacomb (assume it was him) looks very promising. But McClutchie seems to have improved a lot too
-
@Canes4life I'd rank him as the next best 10 TBH.
AB 10s next year will be interesting - on a side note. Presumably it's DMac but next year's Super season is quite appealing with the AB jumpers up for grabs.
-
Going by the Blues promotional activity it looks like the Super squads are being named on November 9.
Anyone heard any rumours of signings or player movements?
A reminder of those players already confirmed are:
T Lomax
X Numia
S Lauaki
A Aumua
I Walker-Leawere
D Flanders
D Kirifi
P Lakai
B Shields
T Perenara
C Roigard
A Morgan
B Cameron
H Godfrey
B Sullivan
B Proctor
R Higgins
J Barrett
J Moorby

Saw in another thread Jacomb has signed for a Chiefs WTC spot.
I wonder how loose those are - like if the Canes said we'll give you a full spot can he move?
Assuming he wants too of course, but as a Naki lad I am sure the Canes, and playing with Roigard and Jordie beside you must have some appeal.

Squads will be locked in. When Jacomb made those comments last week, everything will be confirmed.

@foobaNZ if I was Laidlaw I would sign another first five (Jacomb or McClutchie) on a fulltime contract with an eye to moving Morgan on when his contract expires at the end of 2024. It won't matter if we carry 4 tens because Godfrey can also play fullback.
This will mean that by 2025 our first fives will be Cameron, Godfrey and one of McClutchie or Jacomb which is very solid.

Surely sangster be there again?
