The Chiefs have a rookie centre.
A 6:2 bench split for the Canes.
And none of them appear to inspire confidence should a lock go down and need replacing. Has enforcing golden oldies rules (ie uncontested throws) become an option should you run out of locks?

Howden did okay the other day when called in as lock. I’m surprised they haven’t brought in Hugo Plummer like they did against the Force.

Do the Hurricanes have the biggest backline in NZ rugby (through all levels)?
Barrett 103kg, Umaga-Jensen 103kg, Rayasi 105kg, Savea 103kg, Moorby 99kg.

Roigard is one of the biggest halfbacks in NZ aswell and I reckon Julian Savea is heavier than 103kg, pretty sure that's how heavy he was in his prime. I reckon he's definitely closer to 110kg these days. He definitely looks it.
Aiden Morgan is definitely bringing that average down.
If the Canes get parity in the forwards it could be a long day trying to stop that firepower.

@Canes4life and Roigard's 22 so will only get bigger.

I like McWhannell, but he seems to be permanently injured.
He probably needs to move to push for a AB spot,
and get his body right when he plays he looks good, but he must have played maybe a handful of games over the last 3 years. -
Really looking forward to the clash between Roigard and Weber. Interesting in terms of speed of pass / timing / decision-making. Also the match up in terms of physicality will be interesting.

Two cracking teams. What a prospective excellent game.
Big test for DMac to show some game management (or not).I like daytime footy but this one might be watched on delay as I am busy with real world stuff during daylight hours.
Yep I thinking similar Crucial, I got club rugby to watch, so may require delayed watch too.

McWhannell will get plenty of opportunities after next season once BBBR leaves. I prefer McWhannell to MSR.

He has had a series of unfortunate injuries, and some bad luck. Hopefully the latest (ankle?) isn't too serious.

So Devan Flanders is playing & injured. What a talented man.
Is Cory Jane the reason Julian Savea keeps getting selected? Surely Kini Naholo is the man for that 14 jersey.
Stands out too (Flanders) so no excuse really. But at least they do an injured list now which is better than before. But Canes organization doesn't seem to give a toss regarding keeping the fans updated. If they did they would give more info on players including a brief update on injured players and expected return game.
But good to see Flanders back. He's got excellent ball skills that the likes of especially Blackwell (and others too) lack. I know they have other attributes but passing to the ground or dropping the ball or throwing a poor pass doesn't help our attacking options.
Regarding the game. I thought if the Canes were as lucky as Wellington last year with injuries they might have a chance of being the overall winner. But not to be. Cameron (who won't return this SR yr) is a big loss as Morgan is not close in ability (at least yet as he's still young). So the other injured players might return (Like Proctor, IWL Love etc) but Cameron will be too big a loss I fear. Team don't win without a top quality 1st. And the options of starting Barrett at 1st and playing PUJ or Higgins at 2nd is beyond the Canes coaches.
The other issue is selections. I would go for Naholo rather than Savea (I guess Savea covers center in this game but he did nothing last week after a 2 week rest). And IWL when fit in preference to Blackwell. And Lakai in preference to Kirifi. So even if no injuries the current coaches wouldn't get the team right.
I'm still hoping for a win though (but expect a close loss). Hopefully Blackwell's hands don't let him down and both Kirifi and Blackwell play as well as last week (except for Blackwell's dropped passes). And PUJ steps up after many months out (coaches don't seem to rate Higgins although his best position is 2nd 5 but he's been given only limited game time)

Beautiful conditions here in Welly atm. A very calm day with no wind and rain so hopefully it encourages a good walk up crowd.
