Personally I think any close calls on squad or match day selection should go against RTS, Shannon, Mo'unga & anyone else leaving next year
B Barrett,Retalick,Whitelock,Weber,Smith would all fall in to the leaving category.
Lol they are all in the twilight of their careers, it'd be extremely surprising if any of them wanted to continue after the RWC. If not for the RWC, some may have already stepped down from international footy. That's not even close to the same thing. NZR would have wanted at least another 4 years from Mo'unga given how much had been put into his development.
That has nothing do with my post lol.
It very much does. Someone essentially "retiring" isn't the same as someone doing a career move.

Caleb Clarke is the most frustrating AB for me. Has bags of talent, hungry for work, good under the high ball and doesn't seem to lack ticker. But he often seems to slip over when clear, slows down when he should just power thru - generally seems a bit untidy when he has the ball and doesn't know quite what to do.
Genuinely don't know if it's just him as a player or if Test level fazes him. There's huge potential and I really want him to succeed, but there's a missing piece of the jigsaw right now

Only seen one Blues game I think, and yeah, been less of the yips. Just want to see that carried thru at Test level. I'm a big supporter of the bloke.

Pffft, pretender. Get back to me when you go for the broken record last year on the state of his play, he takes in all your criticisms in the off season and comes back and addresses them all the following season. That's support.

Early Nonu was very like Caleb Clarke. So many breaks that were then wasted by falling over or poor option taking.
It took him a long time to come right. Clarke should be grateful, as back then the AB selectors could drop people like him.

Young Nonu was far more balanced than Clarke!! He tore up teams at Super level. But his decision making did take a long time to come good

the way i remember it , his reads in defense were the number 1 concern when he was first on the scene

the way i remember it , his reads in defense were the number 1 concern when he was first on the scene
That and he was a gold star member of the too cool club. If he dropped it or made a mistake he'd just turn his back and walk away, giving opposition a free pass

Probably too early to start thinking about next year, but seeing the rise of Finau this year and Sotutu adding some real grit to his game did make me think...

He'll need to sign with NZR and one of the NZ Super Rugby franchises first. There's an agreement with Moana Pasifika that the All Blacks won't cap their players if they're also eligibile for one or more of the PI nations.
