@mariner4life The miss on Samu was bad.
Pretty sure Will started well. My memory* is that it was him that got in the face of the Aussie catcher at the kick off and caused a fumble and him and SBarrett who then drove an Aussie over the sideline to set up initial field position that led to our early try.
*I haven't watched a replay so I could be wrong about this - a week is a long time for my short term memory.
yeah i have that memory too.
-
@mariner4life Blown try - Rieko just had to run. He might even have been quick enough to score himself - but no-one was getting to him for 15 metres and the Australian defender was completely isolated and BB could have just run past him.
Remember when Beaudy charged out of the line trying for a hero play vs the Irish? The Aussie pulled it off!

@Crucial The Fern is the only place I'm reading much concern about Will's form.
Last week he scored a scintillating try, would have strolled in for another apart from a midfield cock-up, set up the match winner, topped the attempted tackle count :), caught the high balls kicked to him, chased plenty of kicks and kick offs, won a ruck penalty.
Apparently his workrate is a problem...
And prior to last week? He has been carried for quite a few games on the hope that he finds form.
Yes, last week (apart from the missed tackles) was a big improvement but his kick chase is still hesitant (which then reduces the options for the kicker for later kicks) and he isn't showing the same dominance under the high ball as he has in the past (eg position and strength post catch) even if catching it.
If you haven't noticed his drop in performance this year I think you may be wearing some Red and Blue tinged glasses. -
@Crucial He's had a few games without scoring a scintillating try.
Aside from Boks 1, I think he's been fine under the high ball. Since Boks 1 it seems to me that there's been a distinct shift in Will's kick chase game. He's no longer mainly trying to catch offensive kicks, but is copying the Bok tactic and going up one handed to disrupt and knock down.

He did the right thing in passing..just a rubbish pass.

The pass also came a tad late - he took a step or two before passing he should have passed straight away.
He got caught in two minds a little bit rather than picking an option and going with it
Beaudy having only just come on to the field I don't think they were fully in sync.

thank you!! i couldn't get it in to my head what he should have done differently!
yes, pass straight away and let the 2 on 1 develop out wide.

@Mattasaurus his ability to hit a man through traffic is outstanding, but he needs to vary his game as he makes us too easy to defend.
Put your house on Smith for RWC top try scorer.

@Bones ah, so been keeping his powder dry for the past 3 seasons
No-one's got tape on JB at 12. Genius.
He'll play him at 6 in the knockout match to reeeealy confuse the opponents.

Yep - that would have done it, as well.
But, Rieko was outside the cover defence when he caught the ball so if he'd gunned it I doubt they would have got to him and the wide defender would have been stranded.

Yeah, I thought he should have tried to be selfish.

He might have been worried about being tagged forever as a hungus by @Nepia

Every man and his dog here would've complained that he didn't pass and is therefore not a centre.

Really happy to see Ioane back at 6.
Important test for Akira - needs to put down a marker to be the starting 6 because time (test matches) is running short for RWC.
I'd say the same for Taylor, Papali'i, Ofa, Nepo, Hoskins and RTS.
Any who play poorly might not get many shots at redemption.
and...
Will Jordan searching for his mojo.
More missed equal opportunities on the Fern. That could have been a photo of a much younger and prettier female.

Surely he's tall enough to be at 8, allowing ardie into 12

Refs have a larger influence on the outcome of the game than anyone else
only if you completely ignore the players
or you want to play victim.
sook away, why watch if it's not entertainment? go watch AFL, it's a fantastic game. I bet you will be whinging about holding the ball in 2 weeks, and how the swannies are getting stitched up in clear #vicbias
Every sport has its refereeing issues, even the most popular ones - Jesus @Derpus go and watch the EPL one weekend and see some of the teeth gnashing about refereeing there. It only seems more pronounced in union because there’s so many more rules and so many more opportunities therefore to blow the whistle.
I am not sticking up for union refs here - we seem to have an awful bunch at the moment - but it does amaze me just how shithouse refs can be in other codes when they have so little comparatively to rule on (and what they do have to rule on is much simpler and clear cut).
The TMO is the biggest for union, which is not such a massive factor in other sports yet - but it will be in due course I am sure

I am convinced the TMO only exists because TV cameras could see stuff the ref could never see, and people where whinging hard out when they lost. So we get TMO looking at everything
Has the whinging reduced? Like fuck it has.
