@Billy-Tell Not the same thing.
Law 9.7 is a worse form of offending: time wasting.
Ok we leave it at that. He doesn’t take the penalty quickly so he gets a scrum as per law 20.
If it was a worst form of offending argument you would expect a penalty rather than a free kick.
But happy to disagree.
-
@Billy-Tell if there was ever a rule that has never before been enforced.
I mean, seriously. What penalty is ever taken without delay? It's rugby ffs - delay is all there is.
-
@taniwharugby dreaming if you think that's gunna happen mate.
Except for that one 40 second period where fast play was very important to the game of rugby football it'll be back to 20 minute TMO reviews and 47 scrum resets.
Aaaaanyway, glorious dead rubber next week. How good.

LOL Mo'unga "the composure from both teams was awesome". Nether team had anything that remotely resembled composure
He’s got that media speak down pat aye…
What I would counter is that White kicking that goal to go up 3 was composed. Ol mate Giteau and even Foley have missed easier ones in similar positions in their careers
Plus when we had phase ball after that final scrum, back in the day you almost could guarantee that some tight forward (ala Greg Somerville, John Afoa etc) would’ve just dropped the ball cold. We actually built nicely and Coles I thought made a smart play not to get held up when he was just cms from the post/try line.
The offload to Jordie and to score - that’s a bit of composure when the choccies were on the line.

If we didn’t have the game run from Europe we wouldn’t allow any of this. Big challenge for rugby is bringing back space for skilful players. Part of that has to be speeding it up. It’s a collision game but the slower you allow it to become the more it becomes just about the collisions…and the yellow cards.

Australian Rugby: The game has to be sped up.
Australian Rugby: Not like that! -

@mariner4life I agree with you that they should be looking to start the same team as much as possible. What's hampered us this year is we haven't been able to introduce new players to test footy from the bench as we've been under the pump so often.
i think our bench has been an issue performance-wise. I don't seem to recall too many guys coming on and immediately impacting a game positively. And that definitely would have impacted the coaches thinking.
Last season I liked what Quinn bought as an impact player off the bench. This year when Havili had COVID and he was put in as a starter I think his game suffered.
Sami T was very good too but he is now in his rightful spot as a starter.
And this may be recency bias but probably the best performance from the bench was Retallick, but that guy is a starter.
I’m a bit of a broken record on this one but I still hold some hope that Ofa can be that guy for us, a bit like what Ben Franks was. A ball carrier and hits rucks hard for 25 - 30 when required.

It’s a scrum not free kick. Law 20 “taking a penalty or free kick”
This literally comes from the World Rugby website (Law 9.7.d)!
Have you read law 20? The section I referred to?
A penalty or free-kick must be taken without delay.
Sanction: scrum.
Interesting.
I had thought ref was wrong as timewastimg is a free kick. Arguably he was right. I suggest it makes no difference as we would have taken a scrum anyway.

You are far too positive for my liking. I guess you could say there were some brief moments of composure in amongst all of the absolute chaos. Definitely one of the most entertaining games of footy I've ever watched, that comeback from Aus at 13-31 down was one of the best I've ever seen.

its interesting and possibly a great example of how messed up some of the rules are
delaying taking a penalty is free kick...but time wasting is a penalty...but what is delaying taking a penalty if not time wasting?...realy feels like one rule was written my someone that didn;t know the other existed

definitely seems a long time since we have people like BB, Dmac or savea coming off the bench and almost guaranteed to score/create a try

But obviously it was incredibly concerning how that 15 vs 13 advantage wasn't exploited. Schoolboy teams would do a better job than that. Add the sometimes shocking defence out wide and you wonder what they're actually doing in training.
Not really.
I once watched a team reduced to 13 in the first half, including their halfback, pull away in the second half, to win quite convincingly. It was bizarre to watch 13 boys utterly dominate 15, but that's schoolboy rugby for you.

All Blacks midfielder Quinn Tupaea won’t play rugby again this year after a controversial shot from Wallabies lock Darcy Swain.
Coach Ian Foster said on Friday Tupaea would be sidelined for at least three months after suffering a ruptured medial cruciate ligament in his left knee in Thursday’s Bledisloe Cup win in Melbourne.
He also suffered a partial anterior cruciate ligament tear, Foster said, but he was unsure as to whether Tupaea would need surgery.
Also from that article:
Foster said Swain had been cited, which means he will face a judicial hearing.
Fellow midfielder David Havili, meanwhile, is considered “unlikely” to play next Saturday’s return test at Eden Park after he failed a head injury assessment (HIA).
Captain Sam Cane was removed for concussion like symptoms. Both will go through concussion protocols which will determine their availability. -
@Chester-Draws
We did the same once in a Senior Club rugby game. The fact that the opposition had a big (but not very bright) midfield who thought they could run through you (while ignoring the two man overlaps) was a great help. -
I don't want to argue the legality or probability of the ref decision but the general principle-do you want players to hold onto the ball and do nothing for the whole last minute of the game? I don't. But I also hope they clarify the laws.

I'm still scratching my head about Sotutu's kick. Wtf was he thinking there? He was surrounded by support. He should go the way of 2008 Lauaki for that alone.
But obviously it was incredibly concerning how that 15 vs 13 advantage wasn't exploited. Schoolboy teams would do a better job than that. Add the sometimes shocking defence out wide and you wonder what they're actually doing in training.
Anyone with that haircut has questionable decision making across other facets of life to be fair.
Nonu was ok. And Valetini played well but looks like a potplant.

True but: out of form, not playing, always starting if not injured/on personal leave.

@Kirwan how is it insular. You seen that called this century? Keen to see the highlight man.
Obscure and inconsistent refereeing just one of many reasons rugby is sliding fast in this part of the world.
This is totally illogical.
I haven't seen anyone red carded for deliberately kicking someone in the head this century but that doesn't mean that it won't happen if someone is that stupid.
Face the facts. Foley fucked up and the consequences were big. Just like how a missed tackle in the dying seconds has consequences. Or conversely a ball carrier getting slightly isolated and losing their team a chance to continue.

not saying there aren't reasons, just really noticeable
