i'd love to know how much throwing practice some of these hookers do, its a core skill, little excuse to not be able to do it
-
@Kiwiwomble you'd think they, like kickers spend time kicking, hookers just throw to a target, I am sure they must also have some specific kit and drills for it too
When TR Jnr was playing hooker in U14s, we'd have a target atop a broom handle and we'd spend time at home with him throwing to it at various points in the lineout, practicing flat throws to the front, middle, back, lobs, overthrows etc...

Probably heaps. Difficult part is practicing throws when under pressure against an opposition that you can't predict and with a pack that doesn't execute what they call.
Most of them can do the standard old hit the dot on the crossbar drills.
Not straights are more often a results of trying to adjust from what you have practicised I would say. -

They should replace Jeff Wilson with Maa' Nonu.
Jeff Wilson seems rather concerned with being positive or is just plain deluded.
Sounds like an empty headed comments man.He carries on like he is the host of the show too (which I know he has done from time to time).
Kirstie will ask him a question. He will faff around the company line and then he will ask the questions to the other two.
He comes across as a bloke with his head up his own arse.

You are the head coach ffs, own that mistake and don't publicly out your assistants. He's definitely feeling the heat.
Although it was likely Ryan who suggested it. It's a tough one but a better head coach would overrule his assistant when a stupid decision like this is made. Agree to replace the props but not the hooker just yet

And in that engagement as soon as she handed over, they basically ignored her for the next 10 minutes.

And you need to do it under fatigue as well. I'm a fucking superstar at hitting the target if I don't have 20 minutes of rucks and running in the way

I remember Matt Burke calling games for Channel Ten here in Oz - his solution was always to use the backline more. No matter the forwards were getting pumped.
Similar vein.

thats why lineout and scrum training is always at the end of training

@dogmeat That's fairly common. The rationale is that they give the players a few minutes to warm up as they're not using the HT break to do so. I'm certainly not saying I agree with this tactic, but it's not restricted to just Foster. They would have made that decision at HT, and it was the wrong decision.
The decision was probably made pre game.
Ryan said there was minor injuries to both props. Then the decision was made to change to the front row
ST was still playing well, hindsight is a great thing but would have been worth while for 5 minutes to see if he could play with the other props
Based on 100% throwing record, it was last 15 where we really missed Sami. Mind you last throw from Codie was straight. It did seem that he stood almost in front of AB line so our side of middle, but nonetheless straight.
Did they replay it? I was too busy shouting at the useless fuck and making a fridge visit

Pretty concerning that Ryan appears to have a blind spot for Taylor as well. Seriously, replacing Samisoni with Taylor is like replacing Lomu with Bridge. They are so far apart it's not even funny, with the scoreboard close subbing our best player was one of the crazier substitutions I've ever seen.
-
On the Subs, if you’ve got guys like Va’ai and Perofeta sitting on the bench and aren’t prepared to bring them on after 60 mins in a tight game then they shouldn’t be on the bench.
If you want your experience at the business end. Start those 2 and bring on others.

If he's on our side, and he throws it straight then it's still not straight though - as it's supposed to go straight down the middle of the lineout. (Or did I just miss the joke here?)

I did, expecting it to drift. Mind you it looked as though Taylor wasn't standing in the middle of two teams.

Sad to say, no joke. Isn't hooker meant to stay on mark and throw straight?
In which case so long as ABs aligned half a metre from mark it's a legal throw, even if Pumas are more than half a metre away. And vice versa.

Yep. The ref bottled it because if there was a problem with where the ABs lineup had set up he should’ve dealt with the gap before the throw.
And if Taylor wasn’t on the mark the Touchie can tell him to move. Nothing from the Touchie.
Taylor throws straight and because it went to the ABs, ref said it wasn’t straight.
-
@ACT-Crusader on another day, maybe the ref does that. But really, is it too much to expect for our guys to set a line out properly?
