Yep, and as almost all the ills have been placed at Foster's doorstep by commentators near and far, people will expect nothing less than rapid improvement.
Nah.
You can stop digging....
Seriously? Because I'd be looking for some serious improvement with game-plan, Defence and player performance with a new Coach by the EOYT, otherwise what's the point?
Well in the space of 1-2 weeks Jason Ryan has rapidly improved the lineout and maul defence.
Thanks. Your post pretty much highlights my point that people think rapid progress is easily attained with a coaching change and will expect it.
Personally, I'd want a few more games with that sort of improvement rather than one Test as evidence though.
Depends what you are talking about. Something like a lineout you can see improvement pretty quickly with organisation and practice (and selecting the right hooker....)
I'm not saying that pace of improvement is realistic for all aspects of play.
However it does show the impact coaching can have.

if they think simply replacing the Head Coach means all will be well and we'll be heading inexorably back to the top of the pile
No one thinks that. You're arguing against thin air.
It is a loop tape!

As I said, they'd be living in cloud cuckoo land.
But a nice deflection from your saying I wanted rapid improvement when I said I thought we should expect some serious improvement by the end of 2022.

Actually thought our lineout maul D was shit.
Bokke made mileage without even trying.

In fact maul defense was fine last year in Townsville. Virtually same players, same oppo, and Plumtree.

Huh that's an interesting take, I only have a recollection of once, maybe twice where they weren't pretty much held to a very short gain at best.

What's changed, I wonder?
Was Brodie in that game?

Yes. Big mongrel.

From distance. Didn't score but marched us up field and made shed loads of metres.

I hate to watch replays of losses. But second half. Bokke right wing. 40 - 50 m out. Bad guys made massive ground.
If I have time to look I'll post times.
Worried me as we'd heard how good Ryan's maul D is.
-
@Bones we other than one big maul in the second half our mauling was consistently just nudging the ball up 5 to 7 meters but nothing too distructive.
We tended to take the ball out quicker than we would normally do, but against Wales we got a bit greedy with some of our mauls and turned the ball over so we were a lot more conservative on saturday.

Yeah that was my take on it too. Certainly surprising to see that the Bokke made mileage without even trying and marched us at will.
Sure if you only saw that one maul then maybe that's the case.

Did the Welsh handle your maul better? If so the ABs should get out some videos!

Whitelock contested and it compromised the maul defence. Was the only time ABs got the maul defence set up wrong.
-
@nostrildamus cheat like buggery, they lost five players to yellow cards over the series for repeat offenses.
More seriously, they were successful because we were dumb with keeping balls in after momentum got stalled.
If I was coaching the All Blacks id just focus on getting all eight forwards in the maul cause we are using space that would create

That was the only instance of maul dominance.
The Boks had a few 10 metre line outs from our goal line and tried to get their driving maul going but didn’t go anywhere, and had to release the ball to the backs.
Big improvement from conceding tries from rolling mauls in the Irish series. -

I agree -the way an AB would hang off and then join too late really pissed me off.
