I actually agree with the decision in Swain's case. That was the softest head butt to get red-carded I've ever seen. It was stupid to respond to a provocation like that, no doubt, but it's ridiculous that he gets suspended while the grub who pulled his hair (and the incident earlier in the game) didn't even get a mandatory meeting with the Disciplinary Committee.
Yeah exactly, calling it a head butt and getting frothy about that is a bit ridiculous. It was a nudge at best, might have been going in for a smooch.

He was red carded for intent not execution.
Quite fucking rightly.

I agree with all that and Hill should certainly have been cited for the hair pulling. Earlier incident? I must have missed that, what did he do?

Absolutely. However the real punishment here was leaving his mates a man down for 70% of the match. The subsequent punishment should reflect more than just intent. I’m ok with 2 weeks.

The earlier incident was at a ruck where Swain was standing next to the ruck as a guard and Hill just pushed him in the face as he attacked the line. It was high contact and just dumb. Went unpenalised and seemed to fire up Swain.

@ACT-Crusader Yep.
-
That’s not a good look. Hill is a very lucky boy.

How the fuck the ref missed that is beyond me.
The Georgian ref (and reffing team) in the SA v Wales match took a load of flack over the weekend - deservedly IMHO - but based on Hill's antics James Doleman and his team should have been raked over the coals.

It's a yellow for me. You don't tend to pick up reds for open hand pushes like that. TMO and officials clearly asleep at the wheel though.
It was the hair pull that got me. Up here Creevy was (rightly imo) cited and banned for pulling Etzebeth's hair in May. It either is a red card offence, or it isn't.
*Law 9.27 A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship
Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.27 relating to hair pulling or grabbing carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 4 weeks; Top end: 6 to 52 weeks.*
-
On the other point, sanction entry point reductions always make me laugh. You have to go to some serious effort to actually cop the 'entry' point. Be a repeat offender and plead not guilty ect. Even then they sometimes still drop a week or two anyway.

The softest I've ever seen was Mose Tuiali'i on Marius Joubert. It was more like a head push than a butt. Tuiali'i was red carded in the first half, the Stormers would still lose and Tuiali'i would be suspended for 3 weeks (entry point was 6 weeks).
And some say history doesn't repeat?
Swain decision definitely seems worthy of getting the blood pressure up over lol
